Pair of AR-3a speakers in walnut wood veneer with European cabinet style (different front molding). Other than the different molding, the speakers are identical to the standard AR-3aall drivers, crossover parts, cabinet size, materials, and construction are the same. These are not the AR-3a Improved that had a different crossover; theyre the standard AR-3a. All drivers are original and in working condition. A few months ago I noticed occasional voice coil rubbing in one woofer, but rotating the woofer 90 degrees fixed the problem. The electrolytic capacitors in series with the tweeters were replaced with polypropylene caps (6uF). The original 50uF and 150uF electrolytic caps in the midrange and woofer sections measured in spec. As expected, the original mid and tweeter pots were corroded and failing, so they were replaced with 8-ohm L-pads with 25-ohm resistors between output and ground. The original grill cloth was in poor shape and was replaced with 18-count linen. These restorations were done according to the document Restoring the AR-3a from The Classic Speaker Pages, 2007. The cabinets are in good condition for their age. There are a few scratches and gouges, but overall they look nice (see pics). They are structurally sound. These are classic speakers in good working conditionplug and play. Im an hour south of the Twin Cities. So far, so goodall have reached their destination without damage.
