I was interested in his Marantz turntable, and he begged me not to separate the player from the speakers, which served him well ever since his college days in the’Sixties. When hooked up to my Nakamichi AV-400, the receiver’s volume control could not be set to the half-way mark without disturbing my neighbors. The speakers perform flawlessly- no vibration or buzz. The stain finish leaves the grain of the wood exposed- a warm, natural look. A very handsome pair for any decor. One is numbered D 70005- the other is hard to read but we think it is D 60181. Each speaker has the small letter’a’ as well as the logos square on the grill cloth. These speakers stand up vertically, the’bottoms’ appear unfinished, and they may have experienced moisture at some point, and suffered a little corner ding (see photo close-up with dime). There are very few other surface marks to the wood. Neither speaker appears to ever have been tampered with or opened. The original owner said his buddy spilled a drink on them once, which explains the light stain on top of one speaker about the size of a 45 rpm record. The cloth on both speakers received some stains as well, and the logos squares or’a’s have surface tarnish. We try to make the flaws sound drastic so no one is disappointed, but once these speakers are connected the sound will make you overlook any slight visual flaws. The speakers sound great and are definitely keepers, my house is just too small for them.
