They are in good conditionbut there the odd mark & scratch in keeping with their age, please examinethe pictures. The bass and mid-range drivers have been refoamed so no worriesthere. The AR48S represent the last of Acoustic Researchs classicseries of speakers and were introduced in the final year of the Golden Age ofAudio in 1981. They were offered until around 1983. Note the AR48S should notto be confused with the post-classic AR48B and AR48BX speakers produced later. Sporting a 10 Acoustic Suspension Woofer, 4 Mid-Range and1 Dome Tweeter and were designed for amplifiers rated between 15 & 100Watts. As a 3-way speaker with a 10 suspension woofer the AR48 isthe natural evolution of the AR2ax and saw improvements with brighter sound andexcellent dispersion characteristics. While the AR48S doesnt yet have the vintage recognition ofsay the AR5, their performance is very impressive. Their mid-range and highsare excellent and well dispersed and they sound great even when yourepositioned closely to the speakers. System Type-Bookshelf or floor-standing acoustic suspension3-way system with drive units in a vertical array. 250mm (10) acoustic suspension woofer. 100mm (4) acoustic suspension midrange with amechanically-inert diaphragm of GPS (unit in its own sub cavity). 25mm (1) liquid-cooled dome high range driver. Voltage Sensitivity-2.83 volts produces 88dB SPL at 1 meteron axis. Efficiency-1 watt produces 87 dB SPL at 1 meter on axis. Power Requirement-15 watts per channel minimum. System Frequency Response- -3 dB (half power) points at 45Hz and at 24000 Hz. System Low Frequency Performance- -3 dB at 45Hz with aneffective Q at resonance of 1.15. Impedance-6 ohms nominal (4.8 ohms minimum). Crossover Network-Woofer and midrange use a series networkwhich is combined with a second-order parallel network on the upper end of themidrange. High range has a second order parallel network for a 12 dB/octaveslope. Network uses air core chokes wound with low-loss copper conductor andhigh-grade bipolar electrolytic capacitors. Crossover Frequencies-400 Hz and 2500 Hz. Cabinet Internal Volume-37.5 litres 1.32 cu. Cabinet Dimensions-635 x 354 x 275 mm deep (25 x 13-15/16 x10-13/16 deep).
