Acoustic Research 28B 2-Way 8 Acoustic Suspension Speakers – All Original & Tested. Great pair of 1983 Teledyne Acoustic Research AR-28B 2-way sealed speakers. These units feature the tried and true 2-way acoustic suspension design with a USA made 8″ woofer and a 1.25″ dome tweeter crossed over at a relatively high 5,000hz. This is one of the AR speaker models succeeding the original AR-4 models. One oddity of this model is apparently it was produced as both an 8″ 2-way and a 10″ 2-way – ran into this as I was sourcing woofer surrounds. The woofers have been recently refoamed after sitting on the bench for me since I bought them a few years ago. Just as I expected the speakers sound fantastic but I don’t have a current need for a speaker of this type and thus making them available. Surrounds came out well and foam is same ty pe used from factory in terms of weight and dimensions. Cabinets are in very good condition – nearly defect free – and measure a compact 20x11x7, finished with good quality wood grain vinyl. Grille dust covers are included and are in very good condition. Speakers have been tested and all drivers operating as expected, output is balanced between the two units and sound is well detailed. This model is true to the AR tradition in the “2-way 8″ sealed box segment and have all the strong detailed sound quality without leaving you feeling like you were attacked after a few hours of listening. The speakers are from the estate of the original owner and sat with me for a few years before being recently brought back to life. All drivers are original to these units with new surrounds being the only modification. Overall condition is very good with near zero cosmetic issues, limited to a few tiny scuffs and edge nicks. The grilles are also in very good condition with no snags and only some some light corner wear. Please see all pictures for full condition detail.
