Set of two Acoustic Research AR-7 vintage speakers (circa 1970’s) that was just restored from original shape, which were very good condition already to start with. This is a matching, consecutive serial number set (see photos). The woofers are not the originals from the factory, when I opened them up I found a set of Realistic brand woofers that needed outer seal re-foaming. I replaced them with a set of Acoustic Research woofers that had the same sound characteristics and specifications as the originals (see chart below). The inside of the cabinet was repainted with black satin epoxy paint, the crossovers got a new, fresh set of resistors and 10uf/100V capacitors. The tweeters were cleaned up and still sounded great. New wiring, speaker adjustment pots and conections were cleaned with Deoxit, insulation was replaced, and cabinet was cleaned with Sorensby’s wood treatment and a coat of sealer was applied to finish it off. The biggest change was the speaker grills, which were broken down and restored to look like new. The AR7 badges were cleaned up (but not polished, wanted to keep just a hint of petina on them) and the frames were cleaned up for recovering. I chose a light blue acoustical fabric to give it a different look than all the other AR speakers out there. The fabric is made by Guildford of Maine Sona Acoustical Fabric, a special acoustical line of fabrics made by the best-known maker of acoustical fabrics. Not for use as speaker fabric covering, and meets ASTM E84 Class I or A standards. The weave on this fabric is open enough to let sound pass through and be absorbed and tight enough to mask the appearance of the background behind it. Last thing left to do is to put a set of stick-on felt protector pads for the bottom corners of the speakers, or small screw-in type rubber feet. Whoever buys these speakers can let me know which type they’d prefer or just to have me include them with the package. Cutout Diameter: 7.3. Mounting Depth: 3.44.
