Pr Acoustic Research 4X Speakers, Excellent, Working, Need New Pots. AR 4X does not need a description. Its recognized as one of the all time classics of speaker design. Youtube and expert AR speaker sites provide sound quality evaluations and advise DIY speaker rebuilding methods. Oiled walnut speakers cabinets in original condition. Speakers have not been re-oiled, or sanded. Speaker grille cloths are fine with no damage, no holes in fabric. Photos will prove the point. No wear, no bent corners, no scratches, no plant caused water stains. Each individual speaker has been signal tested without going through the crossover. The usual corrosion of the Nichrome wire wound pots prevented initial sound evaluation. One cabinet was opened, pot removed and wire’s surfaces oxidation brushed with brass brush and DeoxIT applied.. No other chemical were used. After re-assembly the repaired speaker was working fine but the pot still had very brief intermittent spots. Speaker pots should be replaced for best performance. An alternative plan, clean the second pot. After cleaning the speakers will be very usable. New pots can be stage II. The 4x’s size: 9 inches wide (225 MM), 18 inches tall (482 MM) & 9 inches deep (225 mm) and excellent sound makes the speaker very practical in many modern home installations.
