Vintage Acoustic Research AR6 HiFi Speakers – 100 W + Original Boxes. In full working order and good condition for their age. One tweeter has been replaced and is slightly different in colour. Some light scratches on the cabinets -see pictures. The mid range, high range and the bass are wonderful, bass is deep, tight and controlled, although very powerful. One of the best little speaker ever. Edgar Villchur, the founder of the original Acoustic Research Company invented the acoustic suspension (infinite baffle) principle in 1953, just as they invented the dome speaker. What AR had always been famous for was the neutrality of sound. A good speaker was good with everything and anything, either you play rock or classical music they deliver amazing sound. There is some grain of truth in AR’s motto” High Fidelity’. The Acoustic Research AR-6 is designed to achieve the maximum performance available in a speaker of moderate cost. An indication of the success of the design is the unusually accurate bass response and lack of coloration of the AR-6, even when compared to systems that are more costly. The most unusual characteristic is the woofer, which has used the parameters of voice-coil size and length, magnetic circuit, diaphragm weight, and suspension to yield maximum theoretical performance. The high-frequency speaker in the AR-6 is a 32 mm (11/4 inch) design built especially for the AR-6. Its small size provides outstanding dispersion even at very high frequencies.
