Vintage Pair Acoustic Research AR-2ax AR2ax Walnut Case Speakers 100% Original. The AR-2ax is yet another acoustic suspension loudspeaker Designed and built by The iconic Edgar Villchur. Like the AR-3’s I have listed, I pulled these from the same home… You can tell the walnut cabinets have been well cared for and polished often… Probably by the same cleaning lady lol. The walnut laminate looks to be in very good shape with very little damage considering it’s age, but it does have a slight water stain on top of one of the speaker cabinets from a plant or flower pot. There is no delamination or cracks visible on the wood. The original grills do not have any rips or tears and the emblems appear to be in great shape. One of the grills as you can see in the photos shows signs of mild water stains at the bottom. The wood appears to be in great shape does not show any signs of delamination or serious water damage to the wood. I have not attempted to remove the grills and it appears that they’re glued to the front of the cabinet. I did take these in to be bench tested at a notable audio repair shop in the Chicago Burbs. All 3 speakers work in both cabinets but the adjustment pots on the back work but are very touchy. The Technician that bench tested each speaker advised that based on the serial number these are a later AR-2ax and the woofer surrounds would’ve been foam. The foam surrounds deteriorate over time and More than likely need to be repaired. He also advised to service the entire speaker and clean the internal components. Each cabinet is 23.75 inches tall, 11.5 inches wide, and 11.5 inches deep. Each box is (39 Lbs). Please see the attached photos for the best description of this item’s condition. All sales are final. (From the AR Catalog). The AR-2ax is a budget minded version of the acoustic suspension design. It contains the 254mm woofer and 19 mm hemispherical dome, for very high frequencies, used in the AR-5. The midrange is covered by an 89 mm wide-dispersion cone unit. Separate controls on the back of the AR-2ax permit independent adjustment of the level of the midrange and high-frequency speakers.
