Very Vintage Ar3 (or Maybe Ar3a) Crossover Cap (one Of A Kind)

ONE FANTASTIC LOOKING VINTAGE AR3, AR3A MAYBE LARGE WAX CAPACITOR. ORIGINALLY HAD A 150uF, AND A 50uF CAP ENCASED IN A BLOCK OF WAX. NORMALLY THEY LOOK REALLY NASTY WHEN YOU RESTORE THESE. THIS ONE LOOKS PRISTINE. ALSO INCLUDED ARE COSMETICALLY EXCELLENT BRACKETS WITH SCREWS. AND ALSO INCLUDED IS THE FOAM/RUBBER LIKE INSULATING PAD THAT WAS USED BETWEEN THE WAX CAPS AND THE BRACKETS. I GUESS IT WAS THERE TO REDUCE ANY RATTLING NOISES. THATS WHERE ALL OF THAT BLACK STICKY CRUD COMES FROM WHEN YOU RESTORE THESE SPEAKERS. NO BLACK CRUD/STUFF ANYWHERE. AMAZING PLIABLE CONDITION FOR BEING THIS OLD. I MEASURED THE IMPEDANCE OF BOTH CAPS. THE 150uF CAP MEASURED 180 uF, AND THE 50 MEASURED AROUND 60uF. BECAUSE OF THE OUT OF THE HI READINGS, I LISTED THEM FOR PARTS REPAIR. THIS WOULD BE PERFECT IF YOU WANTED TO RESTORE ONE OF THESE SPEAKERS FOR ORIGINALITY, AND APPEARANCES. PS, THESE PARTS WERE PULLED FROM AN UNMOLESTED AR3A SPEAKER. REASON I PARTED IT OUT WAS THE CABINET WAS BADLY WATER DAMAGED AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH PANEL. THE ORIGINAL LOOKING PLUMBERS PUTTY SEALANT BETWEEN ALL DRIVERS AND CABINET WAS STILL SOMEWHAT PLIABLE AND THAT THIN BEIGE LAYER OF PAPER (forgot what its called) BETWEEN THE WOOFER, AND WOOL INSULATION WAS IN MINT CONDITION. AND THE ORIGINAL TW AND MID POTS WERE IN PERFECT WORKING CONDITION.

VERY NICE PAIR OF THE ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR91 SPEAKERS. THESE ARE INCREDIBLE SOUNDING SPEAKERS. I’VE OWNED AR SINCE THE LATE 60’S AND HAVE HAD MOST OF THE CLASSICS. AR3 SERIES, 2 SERIES, 5’S, 58’S, 9’S, LST’S, 11’S, 10PI’S, ETC. THESE HAVE THE NICEST MOST TRANSPARENT SOUND OF ALL OF THEM. THE 9 SERIES ARE WAY BIGGER, AND HAVE POSSIBLY MORE IMPACT FOR THAT HUGE LOW END RESPONSE. THESE ARE WAY SMALLER, AND HAVE BASICALLY THE SAME FREQUENCY RESPONSE, AND ARE A WHOLE LOT EASIER TO SET UP. NEW SURROUNDS ON WOOFERS. ALL OF THE DRIVERS ARE WORKING JUST FINE. GRILLS LOOK GOOD, CABS GOOD. WILL INCLUDE SOME CONVENIENT CONNECTOR CABLES FOR WIRING THEM UP. AND WILL ALSO INCLUDE SOME INFORMATIVE AR91 PAPERWORK. EXCEPT FOR ONE TWEETER, ALL OF THE ORIGINAL “FOAM BLANKETS” ARE IN PLACE. THEY ARE CONSECUTIVE SERIAL NUMBERS: AR91M012446, AR91M012445. ON THE LOWER FRONT EDGE OF ONE SPEAKER, IS SOME STAIN THAT SHOWS IN THE PICTURE. I DONT KNOW WHY THATS THERE. CAB IS VERY SOLID. WAS TOUCHED UP A LITTLE. SEE IN PICTURE FRONT LOWER EDGE OF ONE OF THEM. Ps: the pots on top of the speakers (picture 1) have never contained any water, or moisture of any kind. They are purely decorative, and not real plants. So no worries about moisture damages here. THEY’RE WORKING BEAUTIFULLY. BUT ONCE THEY LEAVE HERE I CANT GUARANTEE AGAINST BREAKAGE OR BLOWN OUT DRIVERS OR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND. Very good condition AR9 Speakers! Beautiful refoamed

These speakers sound great and are in good condition, they have been refoamed also the mids and tweeters have been replaced as a throw in I have two 8 mids that have been refoamed all (AR replacement parts). The cabinets are in good shape and the grills cloth has been replaced by myself which It could use someone with better skills so I left plenty room for error if you decide to do them over. Very RARE Vintage BLONDE WOOD CABINET ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR3 mono SPEAKER WORKING

Item was tested briefly with a Marantz 2230 and radio station was heard. (receiver not included in this listing) No other testing was done. Please note the original grille cloth is not completely attached, but is included in this listing. Also included and still attached, is the original AR metal emblem/badge as shown in pictures. Item has original paperwork on backside, see picture 3. Please note last picture shows small crack (above tape measure) to piece that grille cloth attaches to. Please also note this is the original BLONDE wood cabinet…… All speakers shown in pictures 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 are in OK condition and have no rips or holes in them.
