SURROUND FACTS Surrounds are a critical element of speaker performance. The surround not only affects the bass parameters of a speaker it also absorbs and reflects various cone vibrations throughout the frequency spectrum. Further, the surround often determines the response of a speaker to peak signals. Serious speaker designers put much effort and science into the specifics of each particular surround. The type of material, treatment, thickness profile, curvature, angle of attachment and the exact method of attachment all come into play. There are as many variations of surrounds as there are speaker brands and generally they are not interchangeable. Not only are they a phenomenal pair of speakers with dual woofers, no need to use a subwoofer with these, but these were custom made by Acoustic Research as AR9ls speakers produced for a very special client of theirs. I doubt youll ever find another pair of these factory finished in Rosewood! Much care was taken to matchbook each of the speakers with matching veneer slabs, notice they are twins! These have been restored electronically and function 100%. Some interesting restoration bonuses are each speaker has a switch on the back that will let you select between the original style NPE crossover capacitors or modern upgrade type film capacitors. All capacitors in the crossover are brand new. And last but not least, a second switch will allow you to listen to the speaker and its original form as AR9 LS, or switch to a very popular modification for these, which would be updating the crossover to the AR9 LSi spec. I felt these were important to be able to hear the difference, and also have the option available to keep the original sound of the speaker as it was intended. Some minor imperfections on the cabinets and grills, but still stunningly presentable. A used Twin Dome Highrange/Midrange Assembly for the above speakers. This is extremely difficult to located new or used. Initially, we have two to offer. There are several small dimples on the dome of the midrange. However, it does not impact the sound. If you are the owner of one of these great speakers, you are fortunate. However, it is a major disappointment should one or more of the drivers in this assembly fail. We have found the tweeter to be susceptible to failure. I have a spare assembly for my personal AR 9LSi and would suggest you consider one for your speakers while I have it available. This has been tested with test equipment and a music source and found to perform like new. Please browse our entire store.
