JUST INSTALLED NEW SURROUNDS AND LISTENED TO THEM YESTERDAY ALL DAY OUTSIDE. Close serial numbers too, only 1 number apart. Everything is working as it should and they sound so sweet. Some water marks on them and small scratches but will sand right out if you want. Bottom of 1 has some veneer peeling that I will reglue. Grills are not original but look great. This model is the classic 12 3-way from AR’s Teledyne era. All drivers are in good working condition. There are midrange and tweeter level control switches on the back panel. Woofers are newly re-foamed. New foam around the tweeters.

Up for sale is a used pair of Acoustic Research AR-11 speakers. The speakers have been fully refurbished, new grills, new capacitors, new woofer foam(professionally done), and new 5 way binding posts installed. The cabinets do show some signs of age, there are spots on one of the tops which look like a problem with the polyurethane, there are some dings and scratches throughout both cabinets. The bottom of the cabinets have some missing wood veneer(see photos), you can’t see this defect unless you look under the speakers. The serial numbers are off by almost 1000, so the rear terminals look a bit different from each other. At some point AR decided to change the layout of the terminal plate. This doesn’t affect the sound, all the internal components match properly. Overall the speakers look good for their age, these are pretty rare and don’t come up for sale very often. They do sound really good, they have that classic east coast sound that AR is well known for. I’m located 1 hour south of Syracuse NY and 1 hour north of Binghamton.

Up for sale here is this recap kit for a pair of Acoustic Research AR-11 speakers. This will let you completely recap a set of two (2) AR-11 speakers. These are brand new Supertech MPT (metallized polypropylene film) capacitors, which are super-high-quality and will sound nice and clear. There are two 72 uf capacitors, two 50 uf capacitors, two 40 uf capacitors, and two 10 uf capacitors. The old caps are pretty bad by this point, but these new film caps will get your speakers singing again! These are fairly easy to install as long as you know what you’re doing. You will need a decent soldering iron, solder, a Philips screwdriver, wire cutters, and a hot glue gun or rubber cement to aid in mounting the caps. There are two different AR-11 crossover variants–one uses a 72 uf cap and a 50 uf cap in parallel, and one uses a 120 uf cap. Either way, the 72 uf cap and 50 uf cap in this kit will work nicely to replace the original cap(s). Please note that the new capacitors are much larger than the old ones, because they are so much higher-quality.
