For your consideration, a vintage pair of Acoustic Research AR-12 speakers. The speakers are in very good to excellent condition. The cabinets are very clean, some wear, but overall very presentable cabinets. The grill covers are not the originals. All drivers are original, with the exception of recapped X-over and the woofers being refoamed. These speakers sound excellent! If you are an Acoustic Research (AR) fan, these speakers offer lovely high end, solid mid-range, and a quick, tight bass that does well with the low end. I have not been able to find out a great deal about these speakers. My understanding is that they were released in 1977 and discontinued later in the year. These speakers are really nice condition, as the picture will show. Care will be given to the packaging of the speakers. Local pick-up is also available. One, original, AR Tweeter for AR-12 speakers. This was manufactured approximately 1977. Do not confuse this with the tweeter for the AR-11 or AR-10PI, it is not the same. May also be used as a substitute for the AR LST-2 Rear Terminal Tweeter. Initially, we have two available. Removed from a working AR-12 speaker. Fully tested with test equipment and a music source. This is the correct impedance as the LST-2. However, the dome is a little softer. As the LST-2 Tweeter is very hard to locate, this is a nice substitute and blends nicely with the other LST-2 tweeters. We seldom have one of these. You might want to consider one for a long term spare. Suitable drivers for the early model AR speakers are becoming harder to find. Experience tells us that if you are going to have a failure, it will be the tweeter. If your foam seal has deteriorated, new foam gasket tape is available in Dept. OTHER SPEAKER SERVICE PARTS. AR speakers require sealed cabinets to achieve those low bass notes they are famous for. Felt Tweeter Rings are also found in this dept. We usually have over 200 AR items listed. Rare Acoustic Research AR-12 Loudspeakers. Teledyne Version Of AR5/AR3a

The Teledyne AR-12 is one of the rarest Acoustic Research model speakers, and so there isn’t a lot of information available on them. However, those that have a pair state over and over how wonderful they are, and some AR collectors assert that they are among the small handful of “best” Acoustic Research speakers ever produced. The AR-12 is a classic 3-way acoustic suspension design, and is basically the final iteration of the legendary AR-5. The AR-5 was identical to the flagship AR-3a with the exception of a slightly smaller cabinet and woofer. So the AR-12 has direct connections to both of those speakers. I have had AR-5s, AR3s, & AR11s, and I would say the AR12 absolutely belongs in that pantheon of AR speakers. It is an 8 ohm speaker which makes it easier to drive with a lower power amp than a lot of the other elite AR speakers. The 12 is renowned for its midrange, with a specially designed midrange driver deemed “magic” by AR collectors. This is the only AR Model this midrange was used in – no one really knows why. This specific set of AR-12 are in fantastic cosmetic condition. The woofer foams are strong. Tweeters and mids have steady output. Cabinets are excellent, with all corners and edges sharp and precise – and best of all the unobtainable sculptured foam grills are near mint. There are very minor water marks on top of one speaker that are barely noticeable (see photos), and one tweeter has a very very slight dimple in the dome. When I obtained them, I immediately removed the improper mids and waited patiently for a pair of the original one-of-a-kind midranges to become available. They are almost impossible to find, especially with good foams. I did and was very glad. So these are all original, proper AR drivers for this specific AR Model. Serial numbers are 4817 & 5256. And they do sound amazing. Tight controlled bass that lives up to classic AR standards, and mids/highs that are more detailed than a lot of AR speakers I have heard, yet retain that distinct AR quality that is never overly bright or shrill. These stands are 13-15/16″W x 10¾D” x 12H and other speakers may fit these stands perfectly. The stands are very high quality, made of welded-steel construction with powder-coated black enamel finish.
