Item for sale are a pair of vintage Acoustic Research AR-4 speakers that are all original. Would be a great candidate for restoration but are in fair to good shape cosmetically. The overall main issue with the speakers is that the pots (potentiometers) could use a thoroughly cleaning or rebuild. The tweeters are only audible when the pots are in a certain position on each speaker and if slightly bumped then cut out. Crossover has the original caps and sounds good but I do know a lot of people like to recap original AR speakers to refresh them. Both speakers tested good with a multimeter. The woofers are in good shape and currently do not need to refoamed. The tweeters seem to be just fine as well. Please view all photos closely for the current cosmetic condition of the speakers. PAIR OF ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR-4 SPEAKERS. TRY THEM IN YOUR HOME FOR 30 DAYS. These AR small book shelf speakers were one of the best made. Clear upper end and amazing deep bass. WE HAVE NOT LISTED A PAIR OF THESE IN A LONG TIME. Surrounds on both cloth woofers have been treated and sealed with sealant like the original and only offered by VINTAGE-AR. The cabinets have been lightly sanded, stained, two finish coats applied and then hand buffed to a silky finish. Two small chips on the rear corners of one speaker have been repaired. Excepting this, there are no scratches, dings, chips or missing veneer. We have taken photos of all surfaces for your inspection. The grilles are a pair of our nice replacements with Irish Linen along with our replacement logo plates. Fully tested with test equipment and a music source. The AR-4 speaker is 19 x 10 x 9 inches, 16 lbs. If you want a pair that sound like fresh from the factory and looks almost like new, these are for you. These will arrive safely. For your consideration are two original grilles pulled from a pair of Acoustic Research AR-4xa (see last image for a picture of the label on the rear of the cabinet from which these were pulled). These are all original, and don’t include the badges. Cosmetically, they are in fair shape with noticeable staining and a couple of holes. Structurally, the grilles are intact with no cracks, chips or bends. These would be ideal candidates for new acoustic cloth.
