I jammed out with these for long enough to test. They work well despite the woofer condition (will need reconing) and everything seemed to be working correctly. I did not notice a difference in sound when hitting the switch in the back, but my little Denon receiver might not have been giving it all it needed. I merely hooked them up and checked speaker function. Cabs do show marks and wear but overall really good shape no visible mold mildew or rot. Came from a seemingly smoke and pet free home when I picked them up at an estate sale.

This pair of AR6 speakers has been refoamed and refinished by a local tech. They are in excellent physical condition with virtually no marks or scuffs (see photos). The original grills are also in excellent condition (see photos). The treble control works smoothly on both speakers, and both speakers sound great – no known issues. Includes only the speakers with grills as pictured. The Acoustic Research AR-6 is designed to achieve the maximum performance available in a speaker of moderate cost. An indication of the success of the design is the unusually accurate bass response and lack of coloration of the AR-6, even when compared to systems that are more costly. The most unusual characteristic is the woofer, which has used the parameters of voice-coil size and length, magnetic circuit, diaphragm weight, and suspension to yield maximum theoretical performance. The high-frequency speaker in the AR-6 is a 32 mm (11/4 inch) design built especially for the AR-6. Its small size provides outstanding dispersion even at very high frequencies. The 178 mm (7 inch) depth of the AR-6 adapts it ideally to shelf placement. Type: 2 way, 2 driver loudspeaker system. Recommended Amplifier: 100W (maximum). Bass: 1 x 203mm acoustic suspension.
