Acoustic Research 200037 AR18s Woofer Replacement Speaker Damaged Needs Spider. This woofer was refoamed but the spider is damaged so that will need to be fixed which means all of it will need to be fixed. It does work though and reads very well with the multimeter. Pair of nice shape Acoustic Research AR18S vintage bookshelf speakers. 8 original woofers serviced with new foam surrounds. Original tweeters work perfectly. Everything works and sounds great. I like finding vintage gear, spending some time with it, then finding a home for it and looking for something different. These sounded very good to me. That being said, these were refoamed by the previous owner. One speaker was done well, and one the foam is pulled a bit (all shown in pics). On that same speaker, the red spring terminal on the back is missing the “clamp”. On the other speaker, the screws on the woofer are incorrect. Otherwise these are in presentable and usable condition. So likely not the right speaker for a hardcore collector, but a great speaker for an enthusiast looking to experience them. Acoustic Research AR8s, AR18s 8 Woofer 200037-0 complete, repairable, set needs re-foaming. Speaker set is actually working, and voice coils are in good shape. They are US made, has quality construction, uses heavy magnets and requires re-foaming. Foam ring materials are available online.

This item is in fantastic conditon, there are a few tiny marks on the cabinets and two small holes in the right and left top corners of one of the grills. Non-smoking single owner gems! Vintage Acoustic Research Stand Mount / Bookshelf AR18S HiFi Speakers – 60 W. In full working order with new rubber surrounds. A little dent at the back of one cabinet -see pictures. The speaker surrounds are made of high quality rubber, pliable, anti-aging and durable. They are very close substitute for surround foams but with plenty of life in them. Comes with front covers. The mid range, high range and the bass are wonderful, bass is deep, tight and controlled, although very powerful. One of the best little speaker ever. The feedback received for these speakers will best describe them. Probably need to spend well over a grand to get a modern equivalent. Just need to get a decent DAC now. Restored & packed well. It is thought the NS10 won out in the popularity stakes because of their highly identifiable white cone woofers. The Acoustic Research AR18S evolved from the AR/6/7/18 series with an upgraded ferro-fluid cooled tweeter and what AR eventually described as their”Universal” woofer coupled with a”New Look”. But it dawned on them eventually that the female in the house wanted a speaker to be a piece of furniture as much as a purveyor of sound. They put their heads together and came up with the”S” series designed to look and sound nice. The 18S has been described as a” Nearfield Monitor”. And so over the last twenty to thirty years the 18S has achieved” cult” status as the must have of bookshelf sized. Edgar Villchur, the founder of the original Acoustic Research Company invented the acoustic suspension (infinite baffle) principle in 1953, just as they invented the dome speaker. What AR had always been famous for was the neutrality of sound. A good speaker was good with everything and anything, either you play rock or classical music they deliver amazing sound. There is some grain of truth in AR’s motto” High Fidelity’. Bookshelf acoustic suspension 2 way system with drive units in a vertical array. 200 mm/ 8” acoustic suspension woofer 32 mm liquid cooled cone highrange driver. 2.83 volts produce 88 dB at 1 metre on axis. 1 watt produces 88 dB SPL at 1 metre on axis.
