Acoustic Research AR2-AX Speaker Cabinets – Beautiful Condition, Early Models. One of the speaker cabinets was the 576th ever made of the AR2-Ax models. They are not a matching numbers set but look the same. The wood is in EXCELLENT shape with no flaws whatsoever. The grilled were recently recovered and the badges were polished. I also have the original speakers for sale but the tweeters and woofers are blown. You probably won’t find a set of cabinets out there in better condition. Mid Century Modern Stereo Speaker. You are looking at a nice Mid Century pair of speakers. They are priced EACH… Please select qty 2 to get the pair. Otherwise its just one speaker. Wood cabinets are in nice shape, with few scratches and abrasions indicative of use, no evident damage to the wood. Cloth grills are slightly dirty. Not able to look at actual condition of the drivers, but they played, and played loudly. They meter at about 7 ohms across the terminals. The rear trim pots have issues… Scratchy sounds and are not working smoothly or properly… May just need cleaning or replacement. For use as is or parts, restore. These are vintage electronic parts, that are susceptible to damage with misuse, miswiring, overdriving etc… Please look at pics close. These come with the original boxes, internal packaging, and papers. Serial numbers are: #214675 and #212842. Both speakers are all original, but are in need of repair / replacement / re-coning. For full disclosure and appearance. I took these to a local electronics repair shop for evaluation before I listed them and this is the information they provided. The mid-range speakers are both working okay. The tweeters voice coils are both open. The sub-woofers have the outer edge foam completely deteriorated and the voice coils are open or damaged. The crossover networks tested okay, as did the pots on the back of each speaker. The cabinets and grill cloths are exceptionally clean, with only a couple minor marks on one of the wood cabinets. The paperwork on the back is also in good shape. These have been stored inside a non-smoking home for their entire life. Each speaker measures approx: 24″ x 13 1/2″ x 11 1/2. Quite possibly the best AR series speakers I’ve acquired, asthetically. I love all the AR series, and I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite. These are fresh off a 12 total hour restoration. The corners are great. Sanding and finish could not have gone easier, due to the condition they were already in. I installed new, Simply Speakers, surrounds. The pots are still in very good shape, with only a slight cutout when turning. But once adjusted to your liking, they stay perfectly. A lot of the 12 hour restoration, went into getting the speakers out of the cabs, and then cleaning off all the duct seal, with a ton of razor blade removal, and sanding the speaker buckets, and cones, to get a perfect surface for the new surrounds. I wish I could add more pictures of the restoration process here. But I’m at my picture limit. Unfortunately, I was only able to put up 2, at the end. The speakers grills are original, and in good shape overall. But, there were 2 stains at the bottom of each, I just couldn’t remove fully. A little spray dye will take care of this. Also, the badges are scuffed up a bit. You will love these! Perfect in any room. I even have the original boxes, w/inserts, that will be included. I will double box.
