PAIR of Acoustic Research AR2AX Speakers – TESTED, Sound Great, SEE VIDEO. Up for sale is a pair of AR (Acoustic Research) 2ax speakers from 1973. These 3-way acoustic suspension speakers are in very good working condition. (See video) They feature a 10-inch woofer, 3.5-inch midrange, and 3/4-inch dome tweeter and are highly regarded for their warm sound. The attenuators (potentiometers) on the back of the speakers for adjusting the treble and midrange levels are working but can be a little touchy/scratchy when used. There are scratches on the oiled walnut wood case veneers especially on the bottoms as shown in the photos.

Three pairs of vintage AR speakers. The tweeters on the AR-2AX’s can cut out, but if you fiddle with the crossover controls you can bring them back in. They do sound great when dialed in. Cosmetically there’s some candle wax on the back of one cabinet as well as various nicks and scratches, etc. Great pair for a full restoration with relatively close production #’s. The AR 4X’s with original grill cloth sound like the tweeters are out. Woofers sound good though. Cabs definitely need a refin. Good pair for restoration or parts. The 4xa’s are fully functioning and in nice cosmetic condition. There is a stain on one of the grill clothes though.

Coppia di griglie originali per Acoustic Research tolte da AR2ax, circa 1972. Telai e tessuto in ottime condizioni senza difetti o mancanze di tessuto. Sono specifiche per cabinet europei a cornici strette dimensioni: 32 cm. , quindi compatibili con la serie AR2 e AR3a con cabinet USA. Le foto illustrano bene le condizioni della coppia di griglie. Pair of original Acoustic Research grills taken from AR2ax, circa 1972. Frames and fabric in excellent condition with no defects or missing fabric. They are specific for European cabinets with narrow frames dimensions: 32 cm. , therefore compatible with the AR2 and AR3a series with USA cabinets. The photos illustrate the conditions of the pair of grills well.

These have the cloth surround on the woofers, which would indicate that it was a manufacture date of 1969 or earlier. These have had the woofer surround resealed, the crossovers rebuilt, and the tweeters replaced with the suggested HIVI replacement tweeters. The cabinets have dings and scrapes as the pictures will show as well as one corner crush as highlighted in one of the pics. The corner damage is in the upper right rear of one of the speakers. It is not structural, only cosmetic, and if they are in a bookshelf, you will never see it. They are fully functional and have that wonderful AR sound that nothing else ever really duplicated.
