This sale is for a pair of Acoustic Research AR4x speakers in proper working order. The crossovers have been recapped with high end Sollen Audio Crossover Caps. The speaker screens have been redone with new linen material, quality banana terminals, new tone controls, The badges, woofers and tweeters are original. The cabinets have been cleaned and rubbed with English Oil. They look and sound awesome.

Genuine pair of grilles (frames and cloth, no badges) removed from a pair of Acoustic Research AR4xa vintage stereo speakers. Overall good condition with intact frames, but one of the grilles has a tear and there is some minor staining. Please refer to the pictures as they are part of the description. Dimensions are 8 3/4″ by 17 3/4″ approximately. I took a couple pictures of the grilles next to one of my AR4x to show that they are seemingly identical in appearance, width and height.

These speakers are more than 50 years old – ready for another 50 to enjoy! I’ve replaced caps, new seal and gascets. New greels fabric, cabinets redone. Close seriel numbers FX340457, FX340660 Now they sound wonderful! See photos for more detail.

2 Vintage Acoustic Research AR4X bookshelf speakers for restoration. Tested only the woofers are working. Both tweeters are not working. Cosmetically cabinets are excellent shape for the age as you can see in the pictures, a few lite surface scratches. Will packaged in a double wall box and styrofoam all around. I had a pair of great sounding AR4x speakers that unfortunately had battered cabinets. Luckily, I found a pair of 4X clones that were made by Heathkit in the late 1960s – model number AS-16. The speakers were exact clones of the original AR. This is something in that Heathkit did quite a bit. Unfortunately, the drivers they used were inferior to the original AR drivers. Happily, when I opened up the Heathkit cabinets I discovered that the AR drivers from my AR4X fit perfectly into the gorgeous Heathkit cabinets. Please see pics – they are absolutely stunning, with blonde cabinets and woven cane grills. You won’t find a pair of AR4X anywhere like this, but they sound exactly the same. I’ve even attached AR emblems to the front of the grills. Please see pics of the interior to confirm that these are original AR drivers. You can see the tweeter is dated 1965. I also installed new capacitors and left the existing tweeter potentiometer in place. I hope someone out there will appreciate what I’ve done and be attracted to how gorgeously beautiful these speakers are. With the AR drivers they pack the same incredible punch that the original AR4X did. Double boxed with padding to protect the corners.
