PAIR Acoustic Research 8-inch Woofers. Fits AR9, AR98, AR94 & more Part 200045

This is a listing for TWO Teledyne Acoustic Research 8-inch woofers, for AR9 AR9LS, AR9LSi, AR98 AR98LS, AR98LSi, AR94, etc. Made in Cambridge MA, USA. Part number 200045 ref 561 8235. These have been tested and are working great. These are ORIGINAL vintage AR parts. They have been re-foamed by a professional speaker restoration specialist (not me – I paid for this service). Please enjoy these fantastic sounding vintage hi-fi components I pulled from my very own set of AR98LSi towers. The cabinets were cracked while moving to a new home. A real tragedy, but maybe they can live on in someone else’s living-room and bring new life, and a big smile to your face : They certainly brought one to me for years and years. Since 1990, I have enjoyed collecting and restoring antique radios and vintage audio…. Part(s) for their speakers, application, or DIY project. Judging whether part(s) is compatible with their speaker’s specs! For sale is a pair of 8 WOOFERS removed from a set of 1980 vintage AR94R speakers. Part # is 200027, and these MIGHT be same model type woofers used in some versions of the AR93 and AR94 model speakers, possibly others? I’ve seen woofers in other models with different part #s on label e. 200036, but think they could well be the same electronically and could be used as replacements? The AR94R speakers were a 6 ohm “nominal impedance” system, and the lower 8 drivers/woofers were crossed over at 350 Hz on high end. One woofer’s fabric dustcap was pushed in and “crumpled” (a common issue with these speakers), but I was able to pull it back out pretty well. There’s still some small “dents” in the dustcap, but this is only cosmetic and does not affect performance. Once installed, noone sees the dustcaps and the woofers will perform great, like new! On 06/07/22, I installed new foam surrounds. No sloppy glue or voice-coil rubbing! Woofers tested and play great… Includes the rear foam install gaskets and the installation screws. Judging whether part(s) is compatible with their speaker’s specs! For sale is a pair of the black, plastic integrated BASES / STANDS removed from a set of 1980 vintage AR94R speakers. They are in solid, structural condition and pretty nice cosmetic shape. They have a few minor nics and scrapes as would be expected from wear/age… Nothing serious or distracting. Dimensions are 14″W x 10.75″D, measuring from the back side/edges. Judging from pictures of other versions/suffixes of AR93 and AR94 models, these should be great replacement stands for the AR93Q and other types of the AR93 and AR94 speakers that had black, plastic integrated stands! Includes the installation screws (4 per stand). Judging whether part(s) is compatible with their speaker’s specs! For sale is a pair of 8 MIDRANGES removed from a set of 1980 vintage AR94R speakers. Part # is 200001-1, and these MIGHT be same model mids used in some versions of the AR93 and AR94 model speakers, possibly others? On 06/07/22, I installed new foam surrounds. No sloppy glue or voice-coil rubbing! Tested and play great… Includes the rear foam install gaskets and the installation screws. These were the upper 8 drivers in the AR94R speakers and crossed over to function/play as midranges, between 350 HZ and 2000 Hz. They could possibly work as woofers but I don’t know their overall frequency response/range. The AR94R speakers were a 6 ohm “nominal impedance” system. A couple of things worth noting… On one of the mids, the riveted wire terminal is loose and able to swing left to right. If desired, I could apply a little solder around the riviet to stabilize the terminal from moving.. One of the mid’s fabric dustcap was slightly pushed in (a common issue with these speakers), but I was able to pull it back out. This is only cosmetic and does not affect performance. Judging whether part(s) is compatible with their speaker’s specs! For sale is a pair of 1.25 cone TWEETERS removed from a set of 1980 vintage AR94R speakers. Part # is 200034, and these should be same model tweeter used in many versions of the AR93, AR94 and other model speakers. I’ve seen other models like the AR-18S, AR-38S and AR25 that have the same size cone tweeter, same faceplate but only difference I can see is that the metal faceplate is painted black except for the outer border. From online resources that have specs, the AR94 speakers were a 6 ohm nominal impedance system. These have been tested and play perfectly. They do have a common, very minor cosmetic flaw.. Where the center domes/dustcaps had been dented, pushed in a little usually from someone’s finger, because they weren’t careful to keep their hands away from where tweeters are right behind the grille fabric! I was able to carefully pull them back out a fair amount, but there is still some dents/creases around the tops of dustcaps. It does not affect performance, BUT… Includes the rear foam install gaskets and the installation screws. Vintage Acoustic Research AR94 HiFi Floorstanding Speakers – 125 W. I n full working order and professionally re-foamed. The fabric for both speakers have some little holes in them and one is more damaged on the back. One AR badge is missing and the wooden tops are scratched -see pictures. This is included in the price. The mid range, high range and the bass are wonderful, bass is deep, tight and controlled, although very powerful. Nice natural sound from the 80’s. One of the best speaker system ever. Edgar Villchur, the founder of the original Acoustic Research Company invented the acoustic suspension(infinite baffle) principle in 1953, just as they invented the dome speaker. What AR had always been famous for was the neutrality of sound. A good speaker was good with everything and anything, either you play rock or classical music they deliver amazing sound. There is some grain of truth in AR’s motto” High Fidelity’. System: 3 ways, 3 speaker acoustic suspension system. Drivers: Bass 2 x 20 cm cone type. Tweeter: 3.2 cm dome type. 1982 Vintage Acoustic Research AR94 AR94Si Tower Speakers- Restored! PICKUP ONLY

Since 1990, I have enjoyed collecting and restoring antique radios and vintage audio…. All items I list will be exactly as described… Work perfectly and in great cosmetic shape! I installed new foam surrounds on all 4, 8″ woofers on 06/06/19 (the upper 8″ drivers are crossed over to perform as the midranges). As an audio purist, I installed the new surrounds exactly as the originals… With the inner lip of foam surround glued to the back side of the cone’s outer rim. Some “lazy” sellers will re-foam drivers but just attach the surrounds to the front/top side of cones, and YES it matters! Attaching surrounds on front/top (when they were originally on the back side), changes the level plane of the cone and forces it and the spider down/lower than it should be! No sloppy glue or voice-coil rubbing. The drivers look and play LIKE NEW and should perform great for another 17-20 years! Tweeters have nice rounded domes/dustcaps… Not mashed in like you will see in other AR94Si speakers. When I removed the white “acousti-stuff” dampening material from cabinets… There was quite a bit more in 1 speaker than the other. I weighed it all together, and then divided it evenly before reinstalling into cabinets to help equalize the resonance characteristics. System: 3 way-3 speaker acoustic suspension system. Drivers: Bass 2 x 8 cone type. Tweeter: 1.25 dome type. Frequency response: 44 Hz – 20 kHz. Crossover frequency: 350 Hz, 2 kHz. Cabinet volume: 50 L. Dimensions: 31″H x 14″W x 11D. Weight: 43 lbs ea. I removed the black fabric acoustic coverings (socks), and washed them so they are super clean and “fresh”. A few areas of the fabric have some small pics and tears/holes… Mostly near the bottoms. I mended imperfections by trimming off any pilling/frays and placing a small piece of black vinyl tape on the back side of any tears/holes in the fabric, to help secure from any further fraying. None of the mended tears are horrible or distracting. The black fabric coverings look much darker/black in normal indoor lighting… Taking pics outdoors with bright ambient light make them look lighter. Original AR logos in great shape! I re-painted the black pressboard cabinets so there would be no distracting light areas showing through from behind the black fabric grille coverings (socks). The solid walnut top-plates have been sanded and polished with lemon oil.. No scratches or marks! Showing the top-plates removed, one speaker shows only 1 of the 4 plastic connecting tabs… The other 3 remained attached to its top-plate. Once the top-plate was re-installed, all 4 plastic tabs were snapped back into place. The black plastic stands that isolate cabinets from the floor, were removed, cleaned, polished with Armoral and re-installed with their 4 screws.
