A very nice pair of Acoustic Research AR-11 Speakers. These 3-way speakers have excellent sound. One tweeter is original and the other one was just replaced by a replacement speaker made specifically for these units. Woofers are original and were professionally re-foamed last year. The grills are original, beautiful, and are intact. Please see the photos. I have enjoyed owning these fine speakers, but I need to downsize. Acoustic Research AR-3a Speakers – Fully Restored – Beautiful Classics! . Up for sale or my vintage AR3a Speakers. The speakers were recapped, new L pads installed on one of the speakers, new surrounds, and new grill cloths. The previous owner opted to wire the tweeters and mids from the rear for a cleaner look. He also installed clear pull tabs on the grills for easy removal. One thing to note, one of the crossover boards was cracked and repaired/sealed with epoxy.. Fully Restored Acoustic Research AR-3a vintage speakers. These classic speakers are in very nice condition as pictured; they were professionally restored by with new capacitors, rheostat controls disassembled and cleaned , new woofer surrounds and the cabinets were refreshed. The woofer surrounds were done by Millersound in Landsdale, PA. The cabinets are in very nice shape as pictured with a couple minor nicks/chips here and there but they present well with no glaring imperfections; the grills are in good shape as pictured; all drivers work perfectly and the speakers sound fantastic! These classics are considered by many to be best sounding vintage speakers of all-time and they have a huge passionate following. Super Nice Vintage Acoustic Research AR-4X Floor Speakers – Restored Classics. The AR speakers are legendary in the vintage speakers market. Comes with the forever surrounds on the Woofers. The Hi pot was de-Ox’d and now works great. The wooden cabinets were recently refinished… Sanded, Oiled and conditioned with Bee wax wood conditioner (Hand rubbed). Fully Restored Vintage AR2ax 3-way Loudspeakers. Early 1970’s Acoustic Research AR2ax 3-way loudspeakers. Among the best of the “New England” sound from that generation. Made in Cambridge MA. Designed by the historical duo of Edgar Villchur and Henry Kloss. Villchur is credited with the invention of the sealed acoustic suspension speaker design. I have done a complete restoration of these classic speakers. My asking price doesn’t even cover my expenses in restoring them. Truly a labor of love. Here’s is the run down. Replace the crossover capacitors with ClarityCaps maintaining original crossover points. Replace attenuators (level controls) with new ones and added nice knobs with indicators. Replaced glass wool with lamb’s wool damping material. Re-foamed the woofer surrounds. Replaced original tweeters with improved model spec’d to match original performance. New grill material with original look. Original grills were glued in at factory. They now attach with hidden velcro and are removable. Refinished walnut veneer with oil finish as original. The pictures don’t do the finish justice. Silky smooth and beautiful grain. Repainted black front panel (under grill). Custom made adapters to allow speaker cables with banana plugs and secure connection to speaker (fixes a notorious problem). I believe these to be as good as any living example of this classic loudspeaker and better than most. Read those other listings carefully and I think you will find most don’t compare in condition and functional restoration. I rate the condition excellent. The only flaw is a minor scratch on the bottom of one speaker; unseen once placed. I have them under plastic to protect them going forward. The sound rivals good speakers of today. Bass is very strong from the 10 woofers and highs are crisp but smooth. The attenuators allow for adjustment of the midrange and tweeter levels to compensate for room acoustics and tailor to your taste. AR specs of 8 ohm and they recommend a minimum of 25 watts. I also have some other pdfs of some AR history, brochure, photos, etc. That I will include. Also included are custom cable adapters with ring connectors for secure connection at the speaker end, and banana jacks on the other (see photo). This will accommodate standard cables with banana plugs. I will include 17′ speaker cables. Cable with ring connectors on one end and really nice locking banana plugs on the other.
