Pair of vintage Teledyne Acoustic Research AR-9 speakers. These are legendary audiophile floorstanding speakers, widely regarded as one of the best models AR ever produced. Known for extremely deep bass, accurate mids, and detailed highs. Highly sought after and rarely found locally. 4-way acoustic suspension design. Dual side-firing woofers per speaker. Dual midrange drivers and dome tweeter. Adjustable level controls (front panel). 4 ohm impedance. All drivers present. Cabinets in good vintage condition with normal wear (minor nicks / dings). All Original grills included. Woofers move freely with no voice coil rubbing detected. One of the side woofers shows beginning signs of surround cracking. Two woofer dust caps are pushed in (see photos). One front grill and three side grill need new cloth. Due to age, speakers may benefit from restoration (common for AR-9). These are excellent candidates for a minor restoration but they work as is. Very large and heavy (130 lbs each) – bring help.

Assembled from components selected over the years while replacing the surrounds on many, many AR speaker drivers. This is not a generic surround replacement kit. The components and detailed instructions were selected explicitly for Acoustic Research speaker drivers. This kit was utilized on our own AR-90 Restoration depicted. The AR90 speakers have two 10 inch woofers per cabinet and one 8 inch lower midrange. The lower midrange surround failure is almost always shortly after the woofer failures. All surrounds should be replaced at the same time. Note that the lower midrange utilizes a dust cover somewhat larger than most surround kits. The correct size is provided. The kit includes; a total of six foam surrounds, a set of shims for centering the voice coil (go the extra measure and center the voice coil), one and a half containers of adhesive It is strong, fast drying and dries clear. , three adhesive applicator bottles, six dust caps that you literally drop in place when done and a step-by-step set of instructions specific to the AR-90. If your gasket is torn and not usable, you may find gasket tape in department OTHER SPEAKER SERVICE PARTS. There are two key components ensuring the correct performance; the foam surround must have the correct flexibility and roll diameter. If this is not correct, the stroke of the driver cone will be limited and thus, the bass notes. These surrounds are correct for AR speakers. Additionally, shiming is necessary to guarantee that the voice coil remains centered in the magnetic gap.
