Finding original replacements Tweeters lately has become very difficult, and thus an alternative had to be found. New Midwest 4 OHM Tweeters match up extremely well with the AR4X. I have tested several brands and these are the clear winner. These tweeters have larger magnets than originals, handle more power and are far more efficient than originals. I have marked on the pots where they match up sounding like the originals, see back pictures. Although I strive to keep things totally original on my restorations the outcome gives justice to the AR Brand. Speakers have been thoroughly tested and sound fantastic. ORIGINAL Grills and Badges are in good condition. Some minor nicks on the grills but overall very acceptable. Cabinets are in nice condition, please review pictures. There are some minor scratches to the woofer bottoms side. Please see pictures for your review and acceptance. Acoustic Research AR-3a “Cutaway” Display Loudspeaker For Display. Rare, Hand-Built (by AR) Display Speaker. Last of the display versions built and possibly the last one existing. There was a mistake in the previous listing in the reserve amount and description details, and the listing was cancelled due to that error. There is no reserve on this re-listing. In addition, the midrange and tweeter are not in the circuit or are not functional, as intended, in this system. This unit was designed to be used to demonstrate the woofer’s operation only. AR-3a “Cutaway” Loudspeaker Display Speaker. This rare AR-3a “Cutaway” from Acoustic Research was a show-demonstration version of the AR-3a, hand-made by AR personnel in the late 1960s for trade shows and for the AR Music Rooms. These AR-3a “Cutaways” were hand built in AR’s Cambridge factory with a removable side section to observe the interior and a functioning woofer with part of the cone removed. It is thought that there were only three of these speakers ever fabricated (according to Sumner Bennett, National Sales Manager at AR at the time), and that two were dismantled by AR and destroyed. This AR-3a “Cutaway, ” which has no serial number, was to be displayed in Europe, Asia and other parts of the world. This “Cutaway” was not designed to have functioning midrange and tweeter drivers. Only the woofer was intended to function as a demonstration of the excursion of the cone, pumping back and forth at 5 Hz with input from an audio oscillator (such as the Hewlett-Packard Model 200CD or similar) and power amplifier. This was done so that hi-fi enthusiasts could observe the operation of the AR acoustic-suspension woofer system. This AR-3a “Cutaway” is in excellent, original condition, and it has been stored for many years and displayed only once for the October, 1994 AR 40. This is a very special Acoustic Research loudspeaker and would make a unique and very special centerpiece to display with an AR speaker collection. The Acoustic Research AR-3a Loudspeaker General Description. The AR-3a is a 3-way, full-range, 4-ohm acoustic-suspension loudspeakertechnically a bookshelf speaker for very sturdy bookshelveswhich includes the well-known AR 12-inch acoustic-suspension woofer, dome midrange and tweeter drivers, based on the original AR-3. The AR-3a was designed by Chuck McShane and Roy Allison of Acoustic Research, Inc. And the speaker was introduced at the New York High Fidelity Music Show in October, 1967. This one-of-a-kind AR-3a “Cutaway” from Acoustic Research was a show-demonstration version of the AR-3a, hand-made by AR craftsmen in the late winter of 1967 for trade shows and the AR Music Room. Three “Cutaways” were originally fabricated by hand, and the other two were dismantled by AR and destroyed. This last speaker, and original AR-3a prototype, belonged to Delrama International of 1140 Broadway, New York, New York, and was actually one of the AR-3a Prototypes, as noted by the non-painted midrange and tweeter front plates. These speakers gave birth to the famous AR4X and are considered to be rare in nature. This set in in great condition. Speakers have been fully tested and sound fantastic. ORIGINAL Grills and Badges are in beautiful condition EXCEPT minor stain to one cabinet top and stain on one grill. Cabinets are in in SUPER CONDITION, Corners and all sides. Technically the speakers sound great as they should and will operate reliably for years to come. For sale here is my beloved own pair of Extremely Rare Acoustic Research AR91. This is AR91 Classic 3-way with 12 woofer of AR Air Suspension design. This model is made in the UK which units supplied by US Acoustic Research Inc. The AR91 has been professionally reformed about 6 months ago so plenty of life there. The original acoustic foams enclosing the Tweeters and Mid Range Units have long been vanished and now replaced with custom made but same thickness acoustic foams. If you want classic Acoustic Research Air Suspension with 12″ woofers and the reknown “Bull Eye Mid Range Units this AR91 is the one to die for. The cabinets are in Excellent condition with no damage. It comes with its original curve shape grills which is in excellent condition. These are very heavy speakers so I prefer personal collect and cash on collection. Or I could send by courier with two boxes which could be expensive. Here are the videos to show the AR91 in action.
