We have for sale a properly working pair of classic AR3a loudspeakers. Rated at 4 ohms impedance they measure 3.4 and 3.5 ohms DC resistance which is normal. Serial numbers are 3a37950 and 3a4J525. They work very well and sound fantastic but please read all the details below. >Recently professionally refoamed woofers. >All drivers (speaker parts) work properly and are all original AR factory parts. >Level controls are very smooth and function perfectly. >Level controls are not original but ones our shop installed for a customer over 20 years ago. They work great but are not stock. >One of the woofers is an AR factory replacement. The magnet structure and frame look identical to the original. If you’re looking for that perfect, cosmetically mint pair these are definitely not them! Cosmetically we’d give them a 6 maybe a 6.5 on a scale of 1-10. Scratches here and there but nothing real serious. That being said they work great and we believe they’ve got lots of life left in them. No long term guarantee beyond that. If you live in within 50 miles from us (each way) in Central Berkeley we will also offer to deliver them to you curbside at no extra charge. We’d much rather bring them to you then pack them. For sale: a rare pair of Acoustic Research AR-3A Improved vintage loudspeakers, in beautiful teak finish. Forgive me the exaggerated terms and many superlatives in this advertisement (good wine needs no bush), but in this case they are justified. A seriously interested person knows enough, but this specific set deserves some further explanation. I recently acquired them from the first owner, who had them dry & safe in the living room since he bought them new. He took good care of them, as became clear by the following; the original brochure, guarantee certificate, manual and other papers are still present, which in itself may be called rare documents. But what really surprised me: the felt feet are still there, untouched in the original paper packaging! I have renewed the woofer surrounds with new ones that have been developed specifically for this woofer. When I bought the speakers, the surrounds were almost completely perished, which was to be expected given the age. This is the only (insurmountable) upgrade, other than that the speakers are completely original. The cabinets are also surprisingly tidy, although there are the usual traces of use. So do not expect a new look, but rather a very good basis to make something perfect with only little work. The most important thing is that they function 100% properly. You can test and pick them up in Zwolle, Netherlands. More pictures (high resolution) on request. Pair of 1976 Acoustic Research AR-3a Improved Speakers in exceptional condition. They have always been keep in my home and never in storage. I had the woofer rubber surround replaced about 10 years ago. I was using the speakers until about a year ago when my pre-amp died. However the original boxes are no longer available.
