Pair Rare Acoustic Research AR1 AR-1 Speakers Cabinets w Altec 755A Loudspeakers

For sale is a pair of Acoustic Research AR-1 / AR1 speakers. The rare bookshelf speakers equipped with 755A loudspeakers. Cosmetically, the cabinets show wear. There are scratches, chips, and some areas of the veneer are buckling. The pictures will do a better job illustrating their condition than words can. Please refer to them for more information. AR 28S – Fully Restored. Recapped. Refoamed. New Domes. Original cabinets – new black vinyl. Tweeter diaghgrams replaced with aftermarket domes. Grills replace with new grill cloth. These have been gone through top to bottom with care – they offer that classic AR warmth and smoothness, but with the reliability and performance of a freshly restored set. New crossover capacitors (tightened imaging, cleaner highs). Drivers level-matched for even left/right performance. New vinyl veneer cabinets – clean, sharp, and better than factory. All terminals, wiring, and seals checked and refreshed. The AR28S is known for its balanced, musical, non-fatiguing sound. Warm, full bass for the size. Excellent coherence; great for jazz, classic rock, acoustic, and general everyday listening. 2-way acoustic suspension design. 8 woofer, dome tweeter. Speaker size (each): 544? ×? 298? ×? 199? Unknown condition of internal electronics as well. Veneer needs some rehab. One trim piece came off with little pressure when removing grilles. Woofers one original one replaced. No response from other 4 speakers when wired directly. Reassembling without stuffing- will reserve in bags.

Condition is very good. Since it is a used item, it is in good condition overall, although there are some damages and stains. As this is a used item, there are scratches and dirt from normal use. According to the previous owner, professional cleaning was done to remove corrosion and crackling noise. However, some noise due to aging remains, particularly in the attenuators. As shown in the photos, the connections around the front units are protected with tape. There is some chipping on the corners. The label on the back of the unit indicates “10/73, ” suggesting it is a later production AR-3a manufactured in October 1973. Condition assessment is subjective, so please be sure to check the photos carefully for details. International Buyers – Please Note.

Pair of True Vintage Heath Acoustic Research AR3a/ AS3a All Is Original Re-coned

This pair of cabinets were my Dad’s. I had put wood preservative on them a few months ago. The cones were re-coned a few months ago. 1 sounds perfect, the other one needs to be pushed in to the cone and then is strong. I don’t know the problem, and I did not check both until after the re-coning. Voice coil is still intact as it has sound. The other high and mid range are good. Too heavy for me to move around. We’ll go over speakers when you come to look them over.
