There are TWO (2) boxes, each 29″ (737mm) x 15.5″ (394mm) x 18.5 (470mm) at 55lbs (25Kg). Pair of mid 1950s AR3. These had been living in a large console with a McIntosh MC240 for 65 years. Grills are good and not broken. I could only carefully get one grill off. I was too afraid I’d break the other grill as it was tighter than the first so I was not able to get it off. But I can peek behind the other to confirm the drivers are similar condition to the one you see. Pots need to be cleaned or repaired!! They barely pass audio to the tweeters and dont pass audio to the mids. On the first speaker, I was able to get the grill off and I wired audio directly to the connector on the front and verified mid and tweeter are working. Of course, I could only do this verification to the one speaker with the grill off. The second speaker with the grill still on (as shown), the tweeter can be heard when you twist the tweeter pot. But I cannot get sound through the mid pot to the mid (just like the first speaker). I have no reason to believe the mid driver is damaged. I Simply cannot get the grill off to verify the mid like I can with the first one. These have only ever been run with a Mc 240 and only with classic jazz for 65 years. So I put those numbers in the listing (30″ x 30″ x 18 at 110lbs). This may be up to 10 days before you will see tracking numbers. VINTAGE EXCELLENT VENEER PINE. Acoustic Research AR-2AX speakers. I DO HAVE 1 OF ORIGINAL BOX. My plan was to build a tube system and use these. These are fairly clean for as old as they are. These have some wear from being moved across the states with the original family. There are some scratches, dents, dings, rub marks, chips, cracks, and so on as you would expect. The AR-1 set new standards of low-frequency performance and low distortion that were unsurpassed for many years and some of the best loudspeakers available fifty-two years later continue to use the acoustic suspension principle for highest quality, low distortion bass reproduction. IF YOU ALWAYS WANTED A PAIR OF AR-3a SPEAKERS BUT WERE BUDGET CONTRAINED, PERHAPS THESE ARE FOR YOU. We have just about exhausted our inventory of great components. These are our last. We are no longer doing restorations. Fully tested with test equipment and a music source. You will be very impressed. Just like you heard in the’60s. A pair of our inventory cabinets in unfinished pine plywood. There are some usual blemishes. However, the cabinets have all square corners and there are no substantial scratches, dings or bruises. As AR-3a tweeters meeting original specs. Are impossible to find, we have replaced both original voice coils and internal and external suspensions. These are now clear and strong and will likely be set below full volume as AR intended. The woofers are two of our best originals with new surrounds and centered voice coils. The midranges are an original late production matched pair. All four level controls have been replaced with lifetime guaranteed controls. Original knobs are installed. All crossover capacitors have been replaced with lifetime guaranteed capacitors. All new fiberglass stuffing and cabinet sealer. The grille frames are our strong replacement frames. The cloth is a replacement cloth that we use on all AR-3a speakers. It is imported, acoustically transparent, off white linen with the little slubs running up and down the fabric just like the original. The AR logo plates are new laser engraved plates manufactured for VINTAGE-AR; brass with a little gold to prevent tarnishing, on a burgundy plastic backing. You will never need to polish or replace. Serial numbers are 21747 and 22637. We have taken critical pictures of all sides, tops and bottoms so you can judge the condition yourself. These will give you many years of great service. The AR-3a utilizes a heavy 12 inch ceramic magnet woofer, a 2 inch dome midrange and a 3/4 inch paper dome tweeter. The AR-3a is a 4 ohm system and 25 watts r. Per channel minimum is recommended.
