I the turntable a while ago with the intent of wanting to have another AR XA. This is a nice example as previous owner refinished the top (gray) plate. It’s in darkish forest green. Motor runs quiet and smooth. I believe there is an adapter on the sub-platter suspension to accommodate more common arms (maybe a Rega). It was originally outfitted with a Mayware arm which is also for sale in different listing. I decided/realized that I have too many projects to deal with and enough turntables to keep my happy (4 others), and turntables tale up a lot of real estate since you can really stack them like other components lol. The unit does not come with a dust cover or bottom plate. Cosmetically it looks very nice; I polished the platter sides (platter does not have corrosion et al). You can of course polish the entire thing and make it sparkle and use a transparent type platter mat or no mat at all. Walnut base is in excellent condition and AR badge is present. Get a suitable arm/cartridge and it is easy to see why the well designed classic AR turntable is still so popular and sought after today. Great engineering does not go out of style. Comes from a smoke free home.

Pr ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR-2 Speakers – AlNiCo woofers, refinished. Working fine and sounding great. This was a pair that only had three sides finished when I got them, because they were installed on bookshelves and the side facing down was unfinished. The rest was a light cherry finish that would be hard to match on the raw, unfinished plywood side, so I decided to apply two coats of Minwax Polyshades Mission Oak oil-based stain and polyurethane finish on all surfaces (except the back, of course). I think they turned out to be attractive in a mid-century modern kind of look. I also had new grill baffles cut by a woodworker friend and I installed new, acoustically transparent, grill cloths on them. I checked the L-pads and they were surprisingly clean/untarnished inside and working fine. Woofers are the early, desirable Alnico magnet version with cloth surrounds. The surrounds were re-sealed with the proper fabric doping (the cloth surrounds can leak air after all these years and the the re-sealing stops it and helps bass performance).
