These speakers have undergone a thorough electrical and cosmetic restoration by Muse Audio of Ann Arbor, MI and sound fantastic. The cabinets are in near mint condition. The crossovers have been rebuilt with high quality components and the cloth has been redone. All drivers are original but have been thoroughly tested and restored / re-surrounded where necessary. The potentiometers which nearly always fail due to corrosion have been replaced with high quality new production potentiometers. The stands are made of heavy welded steel. Acoustic Research AR3a Speakers & Stands. One of the speakers is working well but the other is not working properly as it seems to be very muffled. I “tested” these by hooking up a radio and listening for a while. There was no specific technical testing done on the individual speaker components. The grill covers have not been removed by me. The grills are not the lighter colored version that seems to be more common. I have heard that some of the earlier AR3a’s had these darker grilles but I have no way of confirming whether or not these darker grilles were factory or something that somebody installed on their own. These seem to be made in 1974 as stated on the info papers on the backs of the speakers. The wood on the speaker cabinets, and also the speaker stands, is in decent condition but does show visible usage and aging wear including some notable stains and scratches/scuffs. These speakers come with some paperwork including the instruction paper, technical data manual and an Acoustic Research reprinted article on high quality speakers. These classic beauties have a lot of life left in them for the right person who can put a little work into them. Please examine all photos. Message with any questions or for additional photos.
