The membrane on the bass driver is worn out (see photos). The bass driver works. It has some blue paint marks. There is some corrosion on the screws. The caps on the HI/MID switches on the back are missing. It has cosmetic signs of use, such as scratches and dents. It has damage on the right rear corner. It is coming as seen on the photos without wires/connection cables. Everything included in the listing is clearly shown on the photos. For sale is the Acoustic Research AR28LS Vantage Air Suspension Speakers. This is the Classic AR range of Air Suspension speakers made in the 80’s, the last of the AR Golden Era. Vintage Acoustic Research AR28LS HiFi Speakers. In full working order and professionally re-foamed. There is a chip at the rear corner of one speaker. This could easily be repaired with wood filler. Otherwise, they are in very good condition for their age. One AR logo missing also there are holes in grill fabric. The frame is loose due to age. The high range and the bass are wonderful, bass is deep, tight and controlled, although very powerful. One of the best little speaker ever- see pictures. Back in 1982 Edgar Villchur, the founder of the original Acoustic Research Company already knew stuff about acoustic engineering loudspeakers design many modern day designers have only come to know in recent years. One such aspect is the minimalist cross over network, that wen implemented in conjunction with custom designed drive units, cause for unparalleled transparency from the transducer system. Bookshelf acoustic suspension 2 way system with drive units in a vertical array. 2.83 volts produce 88 dB at 1 metre on axis. Listen, and what you get is great bass. Nice, tight, controlled bass from a small enclosure. They are high quality loudspeakers that would fit nicely as a primary speaker in a small room, a secondary system, a bedroom outfit, a cabin even a garage. Like other acoustic suspension designs, the downside of this speaker is their high desire for power. But dont let that scare you away. Power was at a price-point premium when they debuted in the mid-1970s. These days most any low-priced solid-state receiver or amplifier will drive them nicely. But if you want the best a true, classic sound to impress friends and family find a high-powered vintage receiver to drive them. I have been using a Quad 303 Amp which only has 45W+45W and it is good enough to produce tight, punchy and detailed sound. Then hook up a turntable and settle into music like it was meant to sound. The two tweeters are original with no alteration and work perfectly. The two woofers are also original but have been refoamed recently so plenty of life left. The original foam is renown for perishing within five years and this is a common issue of this kind. All in all this is a lovely pair and normally I would welcome audition but due to the social distancing this is impossible now. Instead I have made videos to show the speakers in action. Acoustic Research AR-4ax Vintage Speakers Teak Cabinet Excellent condition

These beautiful, rare to find vintage speakers were built in November 1973. Teak cabinets have minimal wear and scratches, only visible when you look very nearby. One of the cabinets has a little chip at the top back-end (See photos 5 & 6). Beautiful original frontcovers, still very clean, almost no discoloration. Please view all pictures as they are part of this description. Technical both speakers are excellent. No issues with tweeters or woofers. Fantastic warm deep and detailed sound! 254 x 484 x 229 mm (WxHxD) Weight: 7,4 kilo (each). Packaging will be done with great care. A dubble-board carton box and bubble wrap plastic. Plus foam will be used for safe transportation. Austria, Belgium, Denmark (excluding Faroe Islands and Greenland), France (including Corsica and Monaco). These beautiful, rare to find vintage speakers were built in November 1973. Teak cabinets have minimal wear and scratches, only visible when you look very nearby. One of the cabinets has a little chip at the top back-end (See photos 5 & 6). Beautiful original frontcovers, still very clean, almost no discoloration. Please view all pictures as they are part of this description. Technical both speakers are excellent. No issues with tweeters or woofers. Fantastic warm deep and detailed sound! 254 x 484 x 229 mm (WxHxD) Weight: 7,4 kilo (each). Packaging will be done with great care. A dubble-board carton box and bubble wrap plastic.
