PAIR of Acoustic Research AR2AX Speakers – TESTED, Sound Great, SEE VIDEO. Up for sale is a pair of AR (Acoustic Research) 2ax speakers from 1973. These 3-way acoustic suspension speakers are in very good working condition. (See video) They feature a 10-inch woofer, 3.5-inch midrange, and 3/4-inch dome tweeter and are highly regarded for their warm sound. The attenuators (potentiometers) on the back of the speakers for adjusting the treble and midrange levels are working but can be a little touchy/scratchy when used. There are scratches on the oiled walnut wood case veneers especially on the bottoms as shown in the photos.

These speakers sound excellent. Please listen to the short video I uploaded, of them playing Dire Straights Live. Cabinets, grilles, grille cloths, are in very good condition. It looks like grille cloths were replaced. I believe the woofer surrounds were also re-foamed. The only issue I can think to point out, is that on the edge of one of the woofer cones, a small area cracked, was repaired with glue, and has been functioning perfectly for quite a while since – (Please see that in the pictures). The cabinets are finished in a very nice looking, high quality Black Ash Vinyl. They are very well-constructed, heavy speakers, weighing approx. They can be picked up in Olney, MD, Baltimore, Md, or the North East Panhandle of WV. I’m even willing to drive in your direction 20-30 mins to meet you if you’d like. Typically equipped with a large woofer (12 inches). A dedicated midrange driver for accurate vocal reproduction. A high-frequency tweeter designed for crisp highs. Typically around 30 Hz to 20 kHz, enabling deep bass and clear treble. Usually rated at 8 ohms. Around 88-90 dB, which is moderate and indicates how efficiently the speaker converts power into sound. Usually between 100-200 watts, allowing for substantial amplification. Multi-way designs involve crossover networks that split frequencies between drivers, typically involving low, mid, and high frequencies. Floor-standing design allows for enhanced sound projection.
