STANDS FOR ACOUSTIC RESEARCH SPEAKERS AR-3a, AR-3, AR-2ax, UNFINISHED

Newly manufactured pair of speaker stands patterned from original AR walnut stands. We have exhausted our walnut tree and are now making these from hardwood. You may leave them natural, stain them to match your speakers (maple, teak, mahogany or other) or paint them to match your room decor. Most production, original AR stands used veneer over plywood for the center sections. We have used solid hardwood for all components. These will accommodate all of the larger AR speakers including the AR-3a, AR-2a, AR-2ax, AR-5, AR-10 PI, AR-11, AR-12 and others. At their maximum points, the stands are 12 1/2 in. Wide x 14 5/8 deep x 11 in. Depending on the size of your speakers, more or less of the top corners of the legs will show. The AR-1 set new standards of low-frequency performance and low distortion that were unsurpassed for many years and some of the best loudspeakers available fifty-two years later continue to use the acoustic suspension principle for highest quality, low distortion bass reproduction. The small size of the high performance AR-1 (permitted by the acoustic suspension design) helped usher in the age of stereophonic sound reproduction. Two bookshelf-sized loudspeakers were far more acceptable in a living room than the two refrigerator-sized boxes previously necessary to reproduce low frequency bass notes. This example is early enough that it may have been made by Henry Kloss in his Cambridge loft. The Lower driver is the original Vilchur/Kloss designed woofer in all its glory! The Upper driver is a Kloss-designed 8. 65 years after it was built, this speaker continues to impress with its superb bass reach and definition.
