Up for sale, a very nice SINGLE vintage AR3a speaker cabinet. The drivers that were removed were dated from 1972. This cabinet is in very nice condition. There are only a few small cosmetic blemishes, which can ve seen in the pictures. The drivers were removed, but the insulation and crossovers are still intact and untouched. The crossover pots are typical, they will need cleaned or replaced. The other components are also listed for sale separately. Vintage Acoustic Research AR9 4-Way Loudpeakers Very Clean Fully Tested. The AR9 was a large floor-standing, vertical, 4-way, 4-ohm loudspeaker with two 12-inch acoustic-suspension woofers, an 8-inch acoustic-suspension lower-midrange speaker, a 1½-inch upper-midrange dome speaker and a ¾-inch dome tweeter. Dimensions were 52 ¾”H x 15″W x 15 13/16D with a net weight of 130 lbs. And the tower configuration eliminated most room-placement issues found with conventional speaker designs. The crossover frequencies chosen for the speaker were 200 Hz, 1200 Hz and 7000 Hz. Well within the safe-operating range of each driver. This listing includes one Very Clean Overall PAIR of Vintage Acoustic Research AR AR9 4-Way Floorstanding Loudspeakers with all of the original grill covers as shown. Both of these speakers have been fully tested; and they sound very good! // All of the components appear to be in proper working order with no known issues. Both main front grill covers, and the (4) smaller lower side facing grills are original, intact, and have clean grill cloth with no tears or stains. Both AR Grill Badges are also present. All of the foam on the (6) surrounds appears to have been replaced not too long ago. The wood veneer cabinets are also in clean overall condition with no missing veneer or any major damage. There are only light-normal signs of use and wear. Serial Numbers: 006328 / 006374. Please review all attached photos; and be sure to ask any questions.

One owner pair of Acoustic Research AR91 speakers. The speakers are all original. The woofers were professionally re-foamed about 8-10 years ago. They sound great and everything works as it should. The cabinets are in better than excellent condition. Just a few hairlines in the veneer on the tops and some minor wear on the painted edges of the lower front and back panels. The grills are perfect. No holes and no snags. Original owners manual included.

ONE FANTASTIC LOOKING VINTAGE AR3, AR3A MAYBE LARGE WAX CAPACITOR. ORIGINALLY HAD A 150uF, AND A 50uF CAP ENCASED IN A BLOCK OF WAX. NORMALLY THEY LOOK REALLY NASTY WHEN YOU RESTORE THESE. THIS ONE LOOKS PRISTINE. ALSO INCLUDED ARE COSMETICALLY EXCELLENT BRACKETS WITH SCREWS. AND ALSO INCLUDED IS THE FOAM/RUBBER LIKE INSULATING PAD THAT WAS USED BETWEEN THE WAX CAPS AND THE BRACKETS. I GUESS IT WAS THERE TO REDUCE ANY RATTLING NOISES. THATS WHERE ALL OF THAT BLACK STICKY CRUD COMES FROM WHEN YOU RESTORE THESE SPEAKERS. NO BLACK CRUD/STUFF ANYWHERE. AMAZING PLIABLE CONDITION FOR BEING THIS OLD. I MEASURED THE IMPEDANCE OF BOTH CAPS. THE 150uF CAP MEASURED 180 uF, AND THE 50 MEASURED AROUND 60uF. BECAUSE OF THE OUT OF THE HI READINGS, I LISTED THEM FOR PARTS REPAIR. THIS WOULD BE PERFECT IF YOU WANTED TO RESTORE ONE OF THESE SPEAKERS FOR ORIGINALITY, AND APPEARANCES. PS, THESE PARTS WERE PULLED FROM AN UNMOLESTED AR3A SPEAKER. REASON I PARTED IT OUT WAS THE CABINET WAS BADLY WATER DAMAGED AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH PANEL. THE ORIGINAL LOOKING PLUMBERS PUTTY SEALANT BETWEEN ALL DRIVERS AND CABINET WAS STILL SOMEWHAT PLIABLE AND THAT THIN BEIGE LAYER OF PAPER (forgot what its called) BETWEEN THE WOOFER, AND WOOL INSULATION WAS IN MINT CONDITION. AND THE ORIGINAL TW AND MID POTS WERE IN PERFECT WORKING CONDITION.

For your consideration is an exceptions pair of Acoustic Research AR 3a loudspeakers! I could be wrong, but I’m afraid to put pressure on them because I don’t want to poke a hole in them. Even though the surrounds look to be intact, I think they will need to be replaced.
