Early issue Acoustic Research AR1U-the U stands for unfinished. Produced 1954 and 1955 having the 7 post binders for tweeter control-it later. Used a more standard rotating knob. Boxes are solid and intact but have scratches and defects but repairable. Someone will probably strip and take it back to its original woodgrain finish. Serial number is 3525 or 3523. This is for only one speaker. I have not removed the grille as there dissenting opinions on whether or not to do so. The grille cloth is in surprisingly good condition and the more I look at it I think it has been replaced at some point. If forced to remove it to confirm driver it will in all likelihood have to be redone. Both drivers are working and sound correct. Serial #2421 and #2514. Both speakers function properly and sound great. These speakers came from the factory unfinished and have never been stained or painted. The grill cloth has been removed at some point and replaced with metal grills. The cabinets have a slight water stain and one piece of trim has been replaced but are otherwise in pretty good condition for their age. Please feel free to ask any questions. Acoustic Research AR-1U Speaker. Serial Number is: 4286 Working condition, plays musically at volume. Tested with a 12 watt tube amp. This beautiful AR-1U, a recent find, is from a climate controlled house… And I believe obtained from the original owner. It was part of a mono stereo system… That Fisher was produced between 1957 and 1958…. And think this AR-1U is from that era also. There is some very very minor defects of a couple of the corners… There are some white paint marks on the surface on one side. I have no tried to clean these off. But they are on the surface… And no damage to cabinet. There is one hole in the grill cloth… But not enough to pull back grill cloth and look at the speaker cones… #1 Since this is was originally an unfinished cabinet…. Or only a varnish….. And check/take photos of the speaker cones… These actions will only be done…. Please send a message to talk about this. This speaker weights 45 pounds. I will pack carefully.
