Vintage Acoustic Research AR8S HiFi Bookshelf Speakers – Tested – Read Description. Up for sale is a pair of vintage AR8S HiFi bookshelf speakers from Acoustic Research. These have been tested and are in good used condition overall. One speaker: woofer works, but tweeter is not functioning. Other speaker: both woofer and tweeter work properly. Amazing sounding refurbished Acoustic Research AR8S bookshelf speakers. This model is the smaller version of the much sought after AR18S, using the same drivers in a smaller cabinet, and have a similar punchy, dynamic sound. The original drivers have refurbished with new foam surrounds. The old electrolytic capacitors replaced with high performance polypropylene film types for greater clarity and detail in the high frequencies. The grille cloth has been secured to the frame with staples, as this often comes away. Vintage Acoustic Research AR8S HiFi Speakers – 60 W. In full working order with new rubber surrounds. The speaker surrounds are made of high quality rubber, pliable, anti-aging and durable. They are very close substitute(very flexible) for surround foams but with plenty of life in them. One of the front covers have some little hols in the fabric – see pictures. Comes with front covers. The mid range, high range and the bass are wonderful, bass is deep, tight and controlled, although very powerful. One of the best little speaker ever. Edgar Villchur, the founder of the original Acoustic Research Company invented the acoustic suspension (infinite baffle) principle in 1953, just as they invented the dome speaker. What AR had always been famous for was the neutrality of sound. A good speaker was good with everything and anything, either you play rock or classical music they deliver amazing sound. There is some grain of truth in AR’s motto” High Fidelity’. Type: 2 way, 2 driver loudspeaker system. Frequency Response: 67 Hz to 22 kHz. Crossover Frequency: 2000 Hz. Bass: 1 x 200 mm cone. The mid range, high range and the bass are wonderful, bass is deep, tight and controlled, nice natural sound, one of the best little speaker ever. Back in 1982 Edgar Villchur, the founder of the original Acoustic Research Company already knew stuff about acoustic loudspeakers many modern day engineers have only come to know in recent years. One such aspect is the minimalist cross over network, that when implemented in conjunction with custom designed drive units, cause for unparalleled transparency from the transducer system. Back in the 1982 ARs already featured modern day buzz like in house custom designed and manufactured drive units, minimalist cross-overs and ferro-fluid cooling. Bookshelf acoustic suspension 2 way system with drive units in a vertical array. 200 mm/ 8 acoustic suspension woofer 32 mm liquid cooled cone high range driver. 2.83 volts produce 88 dB at 1 metre on axis. 1 watt produces 88 dB SPL at 1 metre on axis. May be used with amplifiers capable of delivering up to 100 watts continuous power per channel, being driven into clipping no more than 10% of the time on normal speech and music source material in non-commercial applications. 3 dB half power points at 67 Hz and at 20000 Hz. System Low Frequency Response. 3 dB at 67 Hz with an effective Q at resonance of 1.0. 8 Ohms nominal /5.5 ohms minimum/. Woofer has a 12 dB/octave mechanical crossover.
