Where in the world are you going to find these speakers in brand new condition??? This estate was literally frozen in time in the 1960’s and these were found in the DRY basement of a bi-level home. Both boxes were sealed and both speakers inside were still factory wrapped in brown wax paper with all of the original packing material. The color is OILED WALNUT although one is lighter in color than the other, most noticeable on the top, the sides match better.. The badges on the front have some spotting around the edges and the grills MAY have some darkening around the speaker outlines.. These were stored in brown paper for 50 years so I wasn’t really expecting perfection! There is one TINY bump on the top back corner that is actually my fault while unpacking. I have NOT tested these. These are also listed on social media, so if the listing disappears, you will know why. Please don’t ask for internal pictures. I did not open these because the original glue seal is in place on the back. Everything in this estate was immaculate and well stored. Any questions feel free to ask! IF I can find exact boxes that fit over these boxes I will do so. But having any loose room in a box too big could spell disaster for the contents inside. Nothing I can do, wish that there was. Vintage 1960’s AR-2 a speakers. You know you want them! Please don’t miss this listing… IF YOU LIVE EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI, IT WILL LIKELY BE LESS. I’M WILLING TO MEET UP WITH YOU…. I have given you many more photos below so please scroll down. These AR speakers are a 1 owner pair. They have outstanding drivers behind those grilles. The AR2a’s dont show up that often. Great speaker and a tremendous value when compared to the skyrocketing AR3 pricing. Capture the AR sound for much less. These clearly started life as “unfinished” cabinets from AR when new. The owner finished them with some tinted varnish. He did a great job on one… The other, not so much. I’m guessing there was something like oil on the cabinet or in his mixture. The cabinet sides are smooth to the touch….. The finish applied to them is dappled. Both speakers were tested and both play. But as always with AR speakers, they of course need new pots for the mid and high frequency controls (Crunchy). You wont have tweeter and mid sound until you tend to the potentiometer controls. This is standard operating procedure for AR speakers. I’m not going to remove the grilles. But I do wish I could to show you the condition of the drivers. Looking through the grille cloth with a flashlight I see that the ribbed surrounds on the mids are still shiny black. No dust or corrosion on the baskets. The tweeters and woofers are beautiful. These are definitely worth your time. I’m going to let the photos do the talking on this one. Examine all the high resolution photos below. Last note that the owner added feet to the bottom of each cabinet (see photo below). I removed them but I didn’t toss them. Nobody will pack speakers better than right here, no worries. Pro packing is my specialty – examine my feedback. Please study all the photos below. C’mon you know you want them! Condition is VG- or better. Wear and tear from the decades. Please examine photos and ask any questions. Overseas on this item IS ACCEPTED…… Listing is for 30 days. Finally land some AR speakers! Item is described as completely and as honestly as possible. I mean this in the strongest terms possible. The item “Vtg ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR2A AR-2 A SPEAKERS SOLD AS FOUND AR AR3 BEST PRICE” is in sale since Monday, August 6, 2018. Original vintage 1960’s Acoustic Research AR4 speakers…. You know you want them! I have given you many more photos below so please scroll down. These are an original pair of 1 owner AR4 speakers. Well cared for, the cabinets are in above average condition. Please see all the high resolution photos below. As usual with AR speakers, the tweeter adjustment potentiometers were crunchy. I soaked them with contact cleaner and got them turning smoothly again, but they are shot. I also carefully removed each grill so you could see the drivers. This also gave me the opportunity to remove each tweeter and test them. Both tweeters are working perfectly. No problems with any drivers, they sound great. These loudspeakers will require the usual “AR tune up” which includes new pots and caps. Please examine the photos… What you see is what you get. Please study all the photos below. Original AR4 not the AR4x OR AR4xa etc….. These are the ones you want. Keep scrolling down for more photos. I’ll show you all sides. Original grille cloth in great shape. Rotating the speakers one turn now. The side panels on these AR speakers are in above average shape with only light marks/scratches. The other side of the cabinets now… I’ll show you the paperwork up close. The other speaker now. And the other paper tag attached on each now. The tweeter level controls… These pots ALWAYS need replacing on old AR speakers. And with the grilles carefully removed. I took my time and both grilles came off without any damage. A close look at each speaker and their drivers up close. And the other speaker now. Again, I tested each driver. All are working perfectly. A look at the tops of the cabinets. There are some small edge nicks corner dings etc which can be expected of speakers this old. The bottoms now which is the only area to show notable scratches and marks. C’mon you know you want it! Condition is very good as found. Light wear and tear which testifies to their age and vintage. Please examine photos and ask any questions. NO reserve so NO EXCUSES….. Item is described as completely and as honestly as possible. I mean this in the strongest terms possible. If you are uncomfortable with this, then I don’t know what else to tell you. Early Units S/N C 13342 & C 13346. One very nice, the other has cosmetic issues from storage and a dent in the midrange unit. I took the ruined veneer off the worst side of this speaker, and I have new replacement veneer for the side and top of the speaker. One grill frame is cracked on the top and bottom (as many are), and the original cloth has detached along the sides. Hooked up amp to the rear terminals and only woofers played, so pots need cleaned. Tested the mids and tweeters using the front terminals, and ALL played music.
