Vintage Acoustic Research AR 2x Speakers. Cabinets have Original AR finish and grilles / tweeter level pots, woofers, and crossovers were rebuilt. Drivers are sealed with original gaskets and flexible sealant were needed. Top Quality Restoration Work. I did the best I could to get them back to their original looks, performance, and sound = SOUND GREAT! The work was done FALL 2025 and the speakers have 1-2 hours of use after the rebuild. They will sound better with use (after initial break in period) as the new woofer cone surrounds loosen up.

These are dated 1969. They have had the works done to them, cabinets completely sanded, small dings repaired and finished with Danish walnut oil. The crossovers were rebuilt with audio grade film capacitors. All 4 potentiometers were replaced with quality L Pads and the mid pots have had an audio grade 1% resistor added to replicate the original pots. The original pots have all been reworked and are included with the speakers. The woofers have been re-foamed, the grills have been recovered with a material that is very close to the original material. The brass AR name plates have been buffed to a beautiful shine and look like new. These have been playing in my shop for a week or so and they sound amazing. Deep smooth bass with very detailed mids and highs. Thank you for looking!

Another item from Ricky Young, Quality Artifacts, Springfield, Vermont. Acoustic Research AR3a 3-Way Acoustic Suspension Loudspeakers. These Acoustic Research AR3a speakers have been tested and are in excellent functioning condition. The original mid and high frequency. Potentiometer pots have been replaced with new wirewound pots (see picture #4). All of the original mounting screws for the woofers have been replaced with stainless steel hex socket screws. The fabric on both grilles has been replaced. A previous owner installed new foam surrounds. Both of the new surrounds have overlapped seams which do not appear to leak any air or affect the functionality of the woofers. Their are a couple of minor aesthetic differences between the two speakers. One of the metal mesh grilles over the mid-range domes is painted black and the other is bare metal. Also, one of the woofer cones is slightly lighter in color than the other as shown. Cosmetically, they possess normal signs of age and previous use (see pictures). Manufactured: 1973 – 1974. Very nice pair of classic AR4x. Serial numbers are 28259 & 28331. These are very early models and have the cloth surrounds. This pair has been lovingly restored to perform as closely as possible to when they were new. The following was done. Crossover capacitors replaced with new 20uf bipolar electrolytics. Original crossover potentiometers opened and cleaned with a brass brush. Good contacts now throughout the range of adjustment. Cloth surrounds on the woofers treated with Simply Speakers surround conditioner. This restores air seal and improves pliability. Walnut veneer cabinets lightly sanded and treated with wood restorer. Original grill covers lightly brushed to remove dust and dirt. Original brass badges included. Original AR tweeters were non-functional and have been replaced with a quality paper-cone tweeter of very similar design and performance. The replacement tweeter has a slightly higher top end extension than the original and helps correct one of the only criticisms of the 4x: a slightly rolled-off top end. Up for sale is one of my favorite pairs of speakers. I bought these off the original owner many years ago. Serial numbers are two numbers apart. I stopped using them a few years ago as the pots started to scratch heavily. I put them in the closet and didnt come back to them for a year or so. I got them refoamed professionally by Millersound recently. (Bill is the best in the world) The pots need to be cleaned/replaced before putting back together. I replaced Capacitors (Daytons) and Pontentiometers (Ohmite RHS-15). I’m not a big classical music fan. But I played some Nathan Milstein and realized that these bad boys are perfect for classical. The sound was SO BIG and LUSH. Some Jazz and Folk sounded incredible but it was hard to recapture the sound that it created from classical music. It’s sad to see them go since I do collect vintage speakers and these are extremely hard to find in this condition. The cabs are not perfect but can easily be restored. Acoustic Research AR-4x Vintage 2-Way Speakers. This is for 1 pair of speakers and they are in good condition for their age. They have a few minor scuffs and scratches. 1 grille has a stain and a small tear. We tested the speakers with a sine wave generator and music. The 8 woofers and the tweeters are original.
