Henry Kloss was featured in virtually every magazine I read as a kid from all audio publications to Playboy, Esquire, Popular Science, and many other major magazines and newspapers. I considered him an enigmatic man of mystery, evolving and creating new products and companies at such a rapid pace it was difficult to chronologize and keep track of them. He was also the master of the Soft Sell, seemingly indifferent to the profitability of his products and more interested in performance as well as research and development. AR was started by Henry and his college professor. These speakers are the second generation AR-2AX, one of my all time favorite Kloss models. They have a more refined, aesthetically pleasing front and rear baffle, and velcro attached grills as opposed to the 1st Gen. The 10″ woofer was redesigned and incorporated a cellular foam surround replacing the cloth design, a newly designed 3/4″ rear wired caged domed tweeter with an insulated diffuser, and a reworked crossover network. Henry retained the 3.5 domed midrange from the 1st Gen. This pair has been restored with new surrounds and the original pots have been disassembled and cleaned. Restoring the original pots as oppoosed to relplacing them is critical to maintaining the original AR sound and performance. The crossovers have also been recapped. The cabinets are oiled walnut and in nice condition with minimal scratches and blemishes. One speaker has a faint ring on the top. The grill cloth is the original rare Rust Red Tweed. One grill was broken across the bottom oval. The grill cloths are very nice. The new grill with original cloth will be included as well as a copy of the original sales brochure. The dimensions are 24″ X 13.5″ X 11.5. They are an 8 OHM speaker and weigh 37 LBS each.
