Acoustic Research AR-3a Loudspeakers – Early Addition – Very Nice! This offering is for a pair of early edition Acoustic Research AR-3a Loudspeakers with alnico magnet, cloth surround woofers and early design midranges. Based on the serial numbers (3A07629 & 3A07691) this pair was manufactured in 1972. All drivers are original. Non-functioning mid and high frequency level controls were replaced with with L-pads and shunt resisters as recommended by classicspeakerpages. These are in near showroom condition and have a commanding sound when driven with adequate power. I have always used an AR Amplifier with these, and have had no issues during 35 years of ownership. Walnut veneer has been lightly sanded and refinished with Watco Danish Oil. All corners are intact, and there are a few light scratches on the speaker bottoms. Stained grill cloth has been replaced with wheat-colored open-weave linen to match the original fabric. The AR-3a brass badges are original, and all cabinet paperwork is intact. Copies of AR literature, including the Owner’s Manual will be included. This pair was my back-up AR-3a set, and we are moving to smaller quarters, so it’s time for these to be enjoyed by another AR lover!
