PAIR OF VINTAGE AR3A SPEAKERS VERY EARLY CONSECUTIVE LOW SERIAL NUMBERS WORKING. Please read the complete description the condition of the cabinets and all other information. There are 24 pictures which are above and below this description. Up for sale is a pair of Acoustic Research model AR3A vintage speakers in very good used condition. The tweeters, midrange and woofers have all been checked for working and they are all good. The pots on both of the speakers have been replaced prior to me purchasing them so I do not know when they were replaced. I noticed this when I opened them up to check as you can see by the pictures. They still have the original capacitors in them and when I checked them they have drifted alot from their normal value. I opened up a lead on both to tweeter and midrange to check for resistance which was good and I also checked the tweeter to make sure that it is working. One of the tweeters has a small dent in the dust cap as you can see in the pictures. The woofers are the old style and they have the original cloth surrounds which are in very good condition considering the age. The replacement pots are smooth and do not have any static so it appears they are a good replacement. I used some bead putty to reseal the woofer when I put it back in to retain the seal on the cabinets. This is a non hardening putty and the woofers can be easily removed if and when you recap the speakers. The grills are in very good condition and there are no tears on either one and both of the badges are in very good condition olso. The main problem with the cabinets is on the top back edge of both of the speakers it must of gotten wet and the wood swelled right at the edge. The veneer is still intact and looks fine but the back edges on both speaker cabinets show a swelling and are raised. I have cleaned and oiled both of the speaker cabinets and they look very good for their age. There is the minor chip and scratch on them and also some slight separation on several of the corners. I like to be upfront and complete about condition which you should be able to see in the pictures. When purchasing an item please do one thing. Waiting extra time is not a problem as long as we have communication. We are understanding people.
