I have worked on 100’s of AR4X speakers, Based on this knowledge I offer some background on this set. There were about 40,000 or so AR4 speakers made. At some point the AR4X Tweeter was introduced and phased in to the AR4X Line. These speakers are Serial # 42712 and # 43228 Rarely speakers this old come up for sale. About 10,000 units like this were probably manufactured before the AR4 woofer was discontinued and the new AR4X CTS woofer was phased in. CAPS checked out so I did not replace, With this set originality is key. Extremely Nice Looking Speaker Cabinets and Sound Quality! Original owner estate find in near perfect condition found shelf mounted and stored in original boxes! Internal cardboard packing pieces are missing. Serial numbers on boxes match speakers. Close and EARLY serial numbers adds to the value of this set. There were over 450,000 AR4’s of some kind made. Speakers have been thoroughly tested and sound fantastic. Original AR Tweeter adjustment pots professionally serviced and now perfect again. CAPS tested and found to be to specs. Woofers were sealed with Vintage AR cloth surround sealer to ensure Acoustical Integrity of Cabinets and Speakers. Cabinets are in extremely nice condition, please examine pictures for acceptance of condition. There are two minor chips to rear corners of one speaker side. Grills and badges are neat and clean, one grill has some nicks, common for speakers this old.
