BEAUTIFUL PAIR OF AR-3a SPEAKERS WITH NEW GRILLES, LOGO PLATES, CONTROLS, CROSSOVERS and totally REFINISHED CABINETS. What we have here is a rare example of a pair of AR-3 speakers upgraded at the factory to AR-3a. Yes, AR was extremely accommodating during the early years in MA. It is hard to see why AR would do this as all internal components were changed to the AR-3a design. Fully tested with test equipment and a music source. You will not be disappointed. All drivers are original to these cabinets. The tweeters are the late production, 3/4 in. Black, hard dome design with rear terminals. It is unusual that we find originals like these performing like new. The mid ranges are likewise the late design, rear terminal, AR-3a design. The woofers are AR-3a with new surrounds installed by VINTAGE-AR while centering the voice coils during the process. All four level controls have been replaced with lifetime guaranteed controls. All crossover capacitors have been replaced with new, life time guaranteed capacitors. The grille frames are our strong Masonite replacement frames. The cloth is a replacement cloth that we use on all AR-3a speakers. The AR-3a logo plates are new laser engraved plates manufactured for VINTAGE-AR, brass with a little gold to prevent tarnishing, on a burgundy plastic backing. You will never need to polish or replace. The cabinets are the early AR-3 plywood design and have been completely refinished, lightly sanded, stained, new finish applied and hand rubbed. One cabinet, the one on the right, had an unacceptable scratch on the top. New walnut veneer was installed. The grain structure is striking. A few scratches remain on the bottoms. The cabinets are now excellent, with nice sharp corners and hand rubbed to a silky finish. We have taken critical pictures of all sides, tops and bottoms so you can judge the condition yourself. These will give you many years of good service. The AR-3a utilizes a heavy 12 inch ceramic magnet woofer, a 2 inch dome midrange and a 3/4 inch hard dome tweeter. The AR-3a is a 4 ohm system and 25 watts r. Per channel minimum is recommended. It measures 14 x 25 x 11 3/8 inches and weighs 53 lbs. The free listing tool.
