For sale pair of Acoustic Research AR-5 speakers new unopened in original boxes from the late’60s or early’70s. Amazingly he held on to the set of speakers for nearly 50 years never opening the boxes. This listing is for one pair of speakers sealed in their individual boxes. I opened one speaker to inspect for any kind of damage from storage (moisture, bugs, etc) and found it to be fine. The last 3 photos are from this speaker. You will be receiving the two unopened boxes – this open speaker shown is for demo purposes. Foam surround is intact. I listened to the speaker and all drivers function, the adjustment pots were a little dirty but with some minor fiddling everything comes through clean and clear. The speaker sounds great. I expect this pair to be the same. With that said, these are nearly 50 years old and if you’re familiar with AR speakers you already know they will likely benefit from some maintenance namely new foam and crossover capacitors. These are dark oiled walnut finish with dark grill cloth. Boxes are stamped “new look”. There is some wear/tear on the boxes, see photos. Please ask if you have any questions.
