Scroll down below the item description to view all of the pictures. Offered here is a pair of. Acoustic Research model AR-4x stereo speakers in decent used condition. These date to around 1971-72. They measure approximately 19″ tall x 10″ wide x 9 deep. This is the first pair of these I have had the chance to audition and I was blown away. Unbelievably rich lows from such a small enclosure. The highs are crystal clear and they paint a really nice sonic picture. The controls on the back are working, but are pretty scratchy when being moved. There are a few intermittant dead spots, but they can be dialed in and sound fantastic once that is accomplished. One of those controls was not working at all when I got these. I did have to take the speakers out the front to get to the control. I cleaned it with contact cleaner and it is much better than when I found it, but not perfect. The woofers on these have doped fabric surrounds and are still very viable and work well. Tweeters are in good shape. I think t hese would be the ultimate vintage speakers for a den or office where space is a concern. Big sound from a small speaker. I tested these with a Pioneer SX-440 (1972) which is only 12 watts solid state. The wood does show some scratches. The corners look good and none of them are bashed in. One of the long sides on one enclosure shows quite a lot of scrapes. It looks good at some angles, but when you get the light just right, the damage is very apparent. If you are going to lay them length ways on a shelf, it is the side facing down so won’t be visible. There are some scratches on some of the other sides, but none that are high profile. The grills look good, but do have a few small stain. I take care of the service routines and cleaning so you don’t have to do it or pay to have it done.
