These came to me from the grandson of the original owner who works with my son in Chicago. It is rare to find a pair of these untouched and in this condition. From the serial numbers I estimate them to be from 1960-61. I carefully removed the grills each held on with 20 small brass colored stapled. You can see the drivers are in pristine condition. I removed the woofers and fiberglass fill and tested the original tweeter and midrange cap block. It was out of spec. I installed new Carli film caps that I matched to 2% of each other. I used these caps because they are closer to the original ESR of the wax caps which were discontinued and left in place. The adjustment rheostats were cleaned and polished and treated with Deoxit G5 The cleaned pot is pictured on the right and original on the left. Not to bad for 50+ year old speakers. The woofer spyder was checked and the surround spacer ring reglued with the voice coil recentered. All original stuffing was reinstalled and woofers sealed with new pudy strips to match the original. The cloth surrounds were cleaned and resealed with the correct sealer from Vintage AR. The wood cabinets were cleaned with Scott’s wood wash, then a quick wipe down with Howard’s RAF and finally a coat of Howard’s Feed-n-Wax. The original grill were reinstalled and badges polished. What I did was to keep them as original as possible and make them viable for the next 30 years. I would keep them, but although they are the nicest examples of 2A’s I have they are not the rarest. Space is beginning to be a problem and these need to be played and enjoyed. They will be double boxed and lined with 2 in. There are some superficial fine scratches, but let me tell you these are real nice and 100% original except for the updates I have described. More photos and of these and the bulletproof packing are available upon request. They will be fully insured. Since they are over 50 years old there are no guarantees other than they are everything I have described. They have 50 hours on them using a Scott R77S, Adcom GFA555II and a Scott 299C tube amplifier. I will be glad to answer any questions.
