Type: 2 way, 3 driver loudspeaker system. Recommended Amplifier: 20 to 40W. Bass: 1 x 10 cone. Tweeter: 2 x 5 cone. Dimensions: 13.5 x 11.5 x 24 inches. This is a pair of AR2 speakers. Note These are NOT the AR-2As or AR-2X model. These were from a nice retried engineer who kept them in his smoke free home for close to 60 years. Best guess was late 50s/Early 60s. These haven’t been played in a long time. I connected and played these speakers for several weeks with a variety of sources including vintage Fisher tube amp, a Marantz early 70s amp, and a 90s Denon unit. I played vinyl, CDs, and a High Res portable Fiio player. Both speakers played flawlessly. All 3 drivers exhibited no audible issues. Sound from all drivers was clean and clear with no rattle or distortion. As you may be aware these early AR speakers have the grills factory stapled in, so I couldn’t perform an up close visual inspection. Beyond having no defects, these speakers sounded wonderful. The bass was particularly noteworthy. I really enjoyed playing these and they matched well with a variety of music and sources. Cabinets: The cabinets wood is stained from household exposure. There are some snags and scars, with some very small corner delamination/wear that you would expect for a pair this old. There are a few remnants of tape on the rear and two circular sticker adhesive remnants on the sides. These could be cleaned up if your looking to restore to Kennedy era showroom spec. Grills : Clean and in nice shape. No funky odors, no visible damage. Badges : Both remain affixed and in nice shape. With some oxidation, but not in any way trashed. Binding Posts : One of the four binding posts is loose and has some play in it but is still 100% functional. I heard no static in making connections. Depending on the scope of your project you could make adjustments but is fully functional without. General notes on the pair. While the numbers aren’t consecutive the owner stated he bought them originally as a pair. My guess is that with Stereo in it’s infancy they didn’t sell match pairs back then in the Late Eisenhower, early Kennedy era. It will take hours/day to source the correct material and will be very expensive to insure these within the continental US. Thanks for viewing my listing.
