Very nice pair of early 1960’s classic Acoustic Research AR3 speakers that have lower serial numbers…. Cabinets were in decent shape as paperwork on back shows. With drivers removed, I refinished cabinets and repaired a couple of history marks. These gorgeous AR’s are finished in three coats of satin poly for years of trouble free maintenance on them. A coat of paste wax on the cabinets when you get them keeps them nice for years. These cabinets are not mint but close with a little history but you have to look very close to see it. Pics show how nice they really are. The walnut veneer has very nice graining on these cabinets and matches well. The grill frames are in perfect shape but grill material was shot. I was able to find the almost exact replica grill material that is being made today and applied it with contact glue on ALL sides of grill frame. The original AR grills were always just attached at top and bottom and always frayed on sides from age and use. These grills are fairly easy to remove and will last a very long time now. With drivers removed, the potentiometers were cleaned and dialectric grease added. They work but do have a few dead spots. I had no trouble adjusting the drivers to what I liked. The early serial number AR3 had the “oil can” caps so left them and just updated the tweeter capacitor with new. The other AR had the wax block cap so was replaced with new capacitors. These beautiful AR’s have the drivers resealed and it sounds like the classic laidback east they are famous for. Most AR3’s I see on here are as is and never touched. Surely there is buyers that are interested in getting speakers without worrying about getting this work done themselves. These are nice and ready to play out of the box. Speakers will be wrapped in thin plastic and small bubble wrap. They will packed in 1 pink insulating foam and double boxed. Please contact me with any questions.
