Please read , carefully, the following description of variations in the AR-2ax. AR used three different style woofer designs for the AR-2ax. The original woofer design utilized a 6 hole mount 11 inch diameter cast aluminum frame with a cloth surround. All AR-2 and AR-2a speakers used this design. For a short time, the cast aluminum frame woofer was replaced with a 6 hole mount stamped steel frame woofer with a foam surround. The later serial number speakers utilized the AR 4 hole mount 10 inch stamped steel frame with a foam surround. All three designs are considered a 10 inch woofer. The early design 6 hole mount woofers have a much larger frame lip. After AR discontinued manufacture of the aluminum frame and 6 hole stamped steel woofers, AR supplied the stamped steel woofer with a masonite adapter ring for repair replacement of the older style woofers. This is a direct replacement for the 4 hole stamped steel frame woofer. For six hole mount configurations, you may use the cast aluminum woofer usually found in Dept. SPEAKER DRIVERS-WOOFER or the mounting adapter ring. AR speakers rely on a sealed cabinet for those low bass notes. Don’t short change yourself trying to use the old sealer in your cabinet.
