For sale: Custom Professionally built 3-way speakers using Acoustic Research AR-3a cabinets. The only things AR-3a about these speakers are the cabinets and the woofers. Professionally built by Audio Ventures of Waukesha, WI, these speakers belonged to my uncle who was a professional violist in a large city symphony orchestra. The cabinets have original AR-3a serial numbers 3A02215 & 3A02228. Both speakers feature the following components. AR 12 Woofer, Model S21297 (also has L21TNB stamped on magnet) with paper cone, foam edge suspension and 5½ diameter magnet (foam edge suspensions have recently been replaced on both woofers). VIFA (Denmark) 5½ diameter 8 ohm Dome Midrange, Model P13WH-00 with 3½ diameter magnet. VIFA (Denmark) 1 diameter 6 ohm Dome Tweeter, Model D26TG-35 with five (5) 4.0u F100V capacitors and two (2) resistors (a Colber 3.5 ohm 5% CWID and a 10w 5 ohmJ). All components are in excellent condition. Technical information about the crossovers is unknown. The cabinets are in very good, very solid and original bare/unfinished condition (they do have a few age-related minor nicks and scrapes). Both cabinets have the original AR Guarantee Information and Inspection Card, as well as the Original Serial Number and Instructions for Use paper/label attached to the backall in good condition (3A02228s S/N and Use Paper is in fair condition with a portion missing). Both grills are the original AR-3a grills and are in good condition but do not have the original AR-3a logo plates attached. These speakers sound amazing, and the base is simply awesome.
