Vintage ACOUSTIC RESEARCH XA 2 Speed Belt-Drive Turntable (1961-66). Great for listening to vinyl the way it was meant to be heard. The cartridge and stylus have been tested and are functional, the cartridge is a SHURE M55E with a new stylus. It has a new belt and tonearm rest. The unit has been cleaned, serviced and played for 2+ hours with multiple LP’s from various artists and music styles and it sounds great. Both 33 1/3rpm and 45 rpm functions work as designed. The tonearm has been checked and tracking has been set for the cartridge and stylus. The plinth is oiled walnut, not MDF, with a few minor cosmetic blemishes, overall good condition, see photos. The mounting location of the AR turntable is not at all critical, outside of the need to protect the cartridge from hum-inducing fields. Because of the isolation achieved by its suspension, the AR turntable is not sensitive to external shock or acoustic feedback. In order to take advantage of its insensitivity to jarring the turntable must be placed on a flat surface, so that the base does not rock. It is also important that it is placed on a reasonably sturdy piece of furniture which does not wobble or rock when jarred.
