Offered for sale is a pair of Acoustic Research 8 inch two way speakers. 8 inch cone woofer with foam surrounds. 3 1/2 inch cone tweeter. 19″ H X 9″ W X 10 D. 60 Hz to 20,000 Hz frequency response. When I first acquired these speakers they had some issues. The cabinets had lost their finish. The woofers were not original. They were JSE (Jet Sound Electronics) brand. Their were no tweeters. Their was no grill cloth. There were also no speaker badges. I happen to have a pair of genuine AR woofers that I replaced the JSE woofers with. I also happened to have a brand new pair of 3 1/2 inch Phenolic ring tweeters that fit perfectly that I used. I cut the wires to the L-Pads and crossovers and replaced the crossovers with 2500 Hz high pass filters. I wired the woofers directly. Installed new linen grill cloths. I sanded the cabinets with some 320 grit sandpaper and applied some medium walnut stain. The cabinets now look great. I played them and they sound fantastic. The tweeter adjustments do not work but the tweeters are balanced with the woofers perfectly. Can’t see how they sounded any better when they were brand new. These were introduced a year before the AR-4X. They both have different woofers and tweeters but sound very similiar. One of the best sounding classic speakers systems ever made.
