Scott was part of the group of audio design companies founded in and around Cambridge, Massachusetts in the 1950s and 60s that were pioneers in speaker design. Scott bookshelf speakers are built similar to the classic smaller Advent bookshelf speakers, and to acoustic research AR-2 speakers in that they use the same acoustic suspension design to get a healthy bass response out of a very solidly built small footprint cabinet, but these are actually even smaller and more compact. Only 14 x 10 x 6.25 inches. REAL SOLID WALNUT wood cabinet construction, not particle board, plywood, or a veneer. Speaker wire or phono jack can be used for input. One knurled nut is missing from a wiring post, but these are standardized size that is shared with many other brands. They have been hooked up to a stereo receiver for testing. The speakers have no odd rattles or noises, and have very good, clear sound quality. The surrounds are good and do not need replacement. The lows kick, and the treble is bright. These can be pushed and get loud with only minimal distortion. No attempt has been made to clean the grilles, but the fabric seems very durable, with metallic thread, and could respond well to cleaning if done with care.
